Twenty years of research has shown Dr. Batmanghelidj what nature has always known: that water is critical to life. So critical, in fact, that the lack of water--or dehydration--actually produces most of our chronic pains and ailments. He reveals the exciting news . . . it is possible to treat and prevent pain for free!

Finally . . . a natural element that can counteract those agonzing degenerative diseases! If you are conceed about the negative effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs have on your body, please read this report in its entirety and consider obtaining more information on the subject. It can change the way you look and feel.

Seventy-five percent of Americans are dehydrated. Instead of consuming life-giving water, we reach for a cold soda or high-sugar juice (and this is after our moing coffee, which also depletes our bodies of necessary fluids). Unfortunately this has taken a serious toll on our health-care structure, for our natural drought management system dictates that when we do have a water shortage certain parts of our bodies are forced to go without water. This is why a blood test is a poor diagnosis for whether or not someone is dehydrated: for obvious reasons, the blood is the last remaining area from which water is taken.

Dehydration is evident. It can be seen in frequent headaches, muscle pains, cramping, heartbu, dizziness which increases upon standing, dry skin, inability to produce tears, poor short-term memory, poor digestion, constipation, nosebleeds, and, lastly, dry mouth. A surprising fact is that thirst is actually a very poor indicator of your need to drink water. The less water you drink, the less often you will feel thirsty; dehydration "shuts off" our thirst perception, so to speak.

Dr. B happened upon some information that is so little known that it isn't even publicized in medical textbooks: the role of histamine. Histamine is basically a chemical messenger messenger that is in charge of drought management in the body. Not surprisingly, it is more active when we are dehydrated and makes itself be known through aches and pains that we cover up with medicines. Also not surprising is the fact that most if not all of the medications that we take are antihistamines. What are we doing? Dehydrating ourselves more and more . . .

As far as hydrating and back pain go, water is a major component of cartilage. It follows then that if we dehydrate ourselves, the cells in our cartilage will shrivel up and eventually be wo away. Not only that, but without adequate fluids, the body can't move toxins through the body which causes them to accumulate in the joints--a condition known as osteoarthritis. Even if you don't have arthritis, chances are good that your back pain is from dehydration, for another common symptom is muscle spasms.

A brief explanation of why cartilage breaks down: water is the lubrication for the cells in the cartilage. When you don't provide enough fluid, the cells are no longer able to glide over each other and the friction becomes very abrasive (like rubbing a piece of granite against some chalk). It is easy to see why water is so important to our joints.

While it is true that most back pain is related to strain, injury, or overuse, pain can still be the result of a lack of fluids. The cells need copious amounts of water to flush out the acid particles created by the increased work or stress that caused the strain. When dehydrated, the acid builds up and sends out pain signals--cries for water . . . not motrin.

"Incurable" diseases have fallen prostrate before the power of water. The Mayo Clinic told an elderly gentleman who had suffered for over thirty years from arthritis in his spinal column that there was no hope for him. He lived in such excrutiating pain that it was impossible for him to stand; as a matter of fact, he resembled a comma (in his words). One year after consistently hydrating himself he was pain free--and not only that, but he had lower blood pressure too!

Here are some interesting facts about hydration:

--even mild dehydration slows down metabolism by as much as 3%
--lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue
--drinking just 5 glasses a day reduces your risk of colon cancer by 45%, breast cancer by 79%, and bladder cancer by 50%
--a glass of water before bed stops midnight hunger pains (but you might have to get up to use the restroom!)
--cold water is absorbed faster than warm water
--drinking 6-8 glasses/day improves memory and concentration
--in 37% of Americans the thirst mechanism is so weak that it's usually mistaken for hunger

Your joints are not the only area of your body that are negatively affected by lack of water. There is one very important area, that should strike you even if nothing else does--your brain. This all-important organ is made up of 85% water! And unfortunately for us, when we deprive ourselves of water it is one of the first places that the body automatically squeezes fluid from. When water, the "messenger" of the brain, is reduced, we suffer from headaches, poor short-term memory, dizziness, poor balance, and general "fogginess." Indeed, migraines can often be treated successfully with improved hydration.

How much water do you need? A good rule of thumb is to divide your body weight by two: for example, a 160 pound person should drink at least 80 ounces of water a day. Obviously more should be consumed if you exercise or live in a hot climate. And while water is the basis for many other drinks including coffee, soda, juice, and alcohol, there really is no subsitute for it by itself. All of those drinks contain substances that are detrimental to your overall health and wellbeing.

Dr. Howard Flaks of Beverly Hills has this to say about the subject:

"As a result of not drinking enough water, many people encounter such problems as excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness (particularly after exercise) and water retention."

So go ahead. Drink to your health!

Biofeedback

With a nearly 70 percent or better success rate of clinical improvement, biofeedback may be considered effective in the amelioration or reduction of symptoms such as headache, irritable bowel disease, and hypertension with measurable outcomes. This cost- effective modality is the treatment of choice in many instances where the client is partnered with the health care provider in the health restoration process.

Biofeedback can be used in conjunction with other behavioral and stress management techniques, such as visualization, cognitive restructuring, and autogenic training. It is a leaing technique that allows the client to become as responsible for his or her health as the therapist, empowering the client to participate equally with the therapist in the planning and implementation of a therapeutic program.

Individual experience can be thought of as events that elicit physical, emotional, and mental responses that are stored in the body-mind. Biofeedback is the process of receiving and using feedback about responses to events to correct problems. It is used to help clients access their own healing potential with self-regulatory skill acquisition. Many different biological processes can be haessed to provide feedback for leaing. These include temperature, heart rate, and electrical muscle activity.

Biofeedback is one of the most widely used and accepted alteative therapies. It can be used to treat a variety of problems, including headaches and other pain conditions, muscle tone irregularities, and anxiety.

I started having back pains a few years ago. The kind that shoot down your leg and make it difficult to walk. The doctors first tried physical therapy and I tried some Chiropractors on my own and nothing seemed to help. I would have occasional relief, but it always seemed to come back. The next thing the doctors did was send me for an MRI. This showed that I had a heiated disc between the L4 and L5 vertebrae. Their first solution was to inject cortisone into my spine and that's when I started looking for alteatives. I had heard that many people would get these injections that would cover up the pain for a while but then later on they would end up injuring themselves further.

One day, my back tensed up worse than before and I could not stand straight up. Any of you who have had back pain will be able to relate to this: I had to walk stooped over a little bit and every time I extended my left leg it pinched the nerve and made every step painful. I got pretty good at swinging my hips and stepping out instead of stepping forward to minimize that pain, but it was time to do something.

A friend of mine had had some acupuncture done before and I decided to give it a try. I walked in, in pain, and walked out standing straight up and walking normal. I was sold. If acupuncture is done right, it is very relaxing and at times I have almost fallen asleep during a session. Please note that acupuncture is actually good for treating many types of aches and pains, not just back pain.

Here is what you can expect from an acupuncture session: You can typically get undressed to a level you are comfortable with. The acupuncturist will then place needles in specific points on your body depending upon your problem areas. These points may or may not be anywhere near your pain. For example, during my sessions for back pain, the acupuncturist has placed needles in my hands, feet, legs and back. The needles they use are very small and each one is individually sealed. Many people may tell you that the needles don't hurt at all, and most of the time that is true. Occasionally, a needle will find a hot spot and it can feel like a fire. Just let the acupuncturist know if it is beyond uncomfortable pain.

Sometimes these hot spots will lead to greater pain relief later on. During my first few sessions for my back pain, my worst hot spot was my right hand; it hurt about as bad as my back did earlier. However, I can walk upright and deal with pain in my hand; not with it my back. I was able to massage my hand and work out the pain so it was definitely worth it. After the needles are in, the acupuncturist will leave and let you relax for 20 to 30 minutes. Depending upon your acupuncturist, they may apply herbs or heat the needles slightly or give a slight twist to the needle. Then the needles come out. You will have to fight the urge to tighten up when they are pulling the needles out. It is better to relax as much as possible and not think about it. Some acupuncturists may also give a slight massage with the acupuncture.

So how am I doing now? Well, it has been over 5 years now, I think, and I never had to have a cortisone shot and never even thought about any kind of surgery. I still have occasional pain and have actually found a Chiropractor that is also a licensed acupuncture provider. He has a table that applies negative pressure to the discs in the spine and helps alleviate any associated pain. I still receive an occasional acupuncture treatment from him as well. Please note that I do not like "cracking" and my chiropractor has not "adjusted" my spine, only stretched it. I think the key to a healthy back with a heiated disc is to provide yourself with the ability to stretch out and strengthen your back without pain. Acupuncture and specific chiropractic treatments can be the way you accomplish this.

Ayurveda is India's ancient science life, health, and longevity. It is thought of by many scholars to be the oldest form of health care in the world. It originated in India over 5000 years ago, and was taught for thousands of years in an oral tradition from accomplished masters to their disciples. The purpose of Ayurveda is to heal, to maintain a high quality of life, and to increase the longevity of the individual. It is an art of daily living that has evolved from practical, philosophical, and spiritual insight. Even though they have been used for thousands of years, Ayurvedic principles have never changed, since they derive from universal laws of nature that are eteally true.

In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means the "Science of Life." Life is the integration of body, mind and consciousness. Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through diet, lifestyle, yoga and meditation practice, the use of herbs, as well as cleansing and and rejuvenating therapies (panchakarma, abhyanga, shirodhara, nadi swedana, etc.)

Ayurveda is a science of self-understanding. By understanding our own unique nature or constitution we can begin to understand how we interact with our environment and thus make choices that will lead us toward greater health. Ayurveda defines disease as the natural end result of living out of harmony with our original constitution. Therefore, the Ayurvedic approach is very individualized, since the path to optimal health is different for each person, depending upon their unique constitution or prakruti.

The Ayurvedic system believes that the individual's constitution (prakruti) is recorded at the time of conception as a genetic code that can be expressed physically and mentally as disease proneness and emotional response. This constitution is determined by vata, pitta and kapha, which are the three main doshas, or psycho-physiological functional principles in Ayurveda. They gove the individual's response to changes and they promote the disease process when out of balance.

Many factors, both inteal and exteal, can disturb this balance and bring about changes in the original constitution that may lead to disorders and disease. Some of these factors include emotional and physical stresses, improper food combinations and choices, physical trauma, or seasonal and weather changes. Once we understand how these factors affect us on a constitutional level, we can take appropriate actions to nullify or minimize their effects and eliminate the causes of imbalance. The aim is to understand the nature and structure of disorder, so we can re-establish order to gain control over our health and well being.

The science of understanding our constitution is the science of tridosha. Tridosha defines the three fundamental doshas or principles that gove the function of our bodies on the physical, mental, and emotional levels. Each individual has a unique balance of all three of these energies. These principles can be related to the basic biology of the body.

Energy is required to create movement so that fluids and nutrients get to the cells, enabling the body to function. Energy is also necessary to metabolize the nutrients in the cells and is utilized to lubricate and maintain cellular structure. Vata is the energy of movement; pitta is the energy of transformation, digestion or metabolism; and kapha is the energy of lubrication and structure. Everyone has the qualities of vata, pitta and kapha, but one is usually primary or predominant, one is secondary and the third is usually the least predominant.

Vata is the subtle energy associated with movement. It goves respiration, circulation, and elimination, as well as the pulsation of the heart and motor neuron impulses. Vata is very much like the wind —it is light, cool, dry and mobile. People with a vata nature experience more of these qualities. Their bodies tend to be light, their bones thin, and their skin and hair dry. They often move and speak quickly. They tend to be talkative, enthusiastic, creative, flexible, and energetic. When aggravated, vata can cause confusion, insomnia, flatulence, constipation, weight loss, tremors, spasms, asthma, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, as well as many neurological and immunological problems.

Pitta represents the fire element in the body. It goves digestion, absorption, assimilation, nutrition, metabolism, and body temperature. Pitta tends to be hot, sharp, and penetrating. It is also somewhat volatile and oily. People with a pitta nature reflect these qualities. They tend to feel warm, have somewhat oily skin, penetrating eyes, and sharp features. They tend to have moderate weight and good musculature. They tend to be highly focused, competitive, capable, courageous, energetic, and clear communicators who get right to the point. They can however become overly intense and speak with a sharp tongue. Pitta disorders include diarrhea, infections, hyperacidity, ulcers, skin eruptions, chronic fatigue, Crohn's disease, colitis, liver, spleen, and blood ailments, as well as numerous inflammatory problems.

Kapha is the energy that forms the body's structure and provides the cohesion that holds the cells together. Kapha supplies the water for all bodily parts and systems. It lubricates joints, moisturizes the skin, and maintains immunity. Kapha tends to be cool, moist, stable, and heavy. In the body these qualities manifest as dense, heavy bones; lustrous, supple skin; low metabolism and large, stocky frames. In addition, those with a kapha nature tend to feel cool. The heavy, stable nature of kapha reflects in a stable personality, not prone to quick fluctuations. When out of balance, kapha individuals are prone to gaining weight and tend to accumulate mucous. Kapha can also cause obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, depression, edema, asthma, tumors, and a variety of congestive problems.

Ayurveda also states that like increases like. For example, the summer has attributes similar to those of pitta —hot, liquid, light, mobile, and penetrating. Therefore, in the summer pitta in the body tends to be increased. Vata is light, subtle, dry, mobile, rough, and cold. So in the fall, which also exhibits these attributes, vata will tend to be increased in the body. Kapha is liquid, heavy, cold, sticky, and cloudy. In the winter, when these characteristics predominate in the exteal environment, inteal kapha tends to be increased. The constitution of an individual is a dynamic force, and vata, pitta, and kapha are dynamic energies that will change and be affected by the environment and other factors in various ways. An Ayurvedic regime and lifestyle, along with dinacharya routines, will enable the individual to gain more awareness and control over how those factors can be diminished or nullified, so as to improve and maintain optimal health and well being.

From the time of birth until death, the body is engaged in maintaining life. Vata, pitta and kapha play an important role in the maintenance of cellular health and longevity. Kapha maintains longevity on the cellular level. Pitta goves digestion and nutrition. Vata, which is closely related to the life energy (or prana), goves all life functions. Ayurveda offers different therapies that may support the individual's constitutional harmony at all levels, while promoting cellular rejuvenation and overall vitality and immunity. The key to optimal health is to help the body eliminate toxins and reestablish the constitutional balance of the doshas. For such purpose, Ayurveda offers diet and lifestyle guidelines, herbal preparations, and cleansing and rejuvenating programs such as panchakarma and vata management therapies.

Essential oils provide a fantastic natural alteative to common ailments we see at home. The actions of essentialoils are broad, ranging from topical antiseptics and anti-inflammatories to analgesics, digestive system tonics, and anti-depressants. In blends, lemon adds a pleasant top note, and can createa synergistic effect with other oils. Finally, Lemon oil is commonly used as both a fragrance and flavoringagent.

Oil #10: Clove Essential Oil

The power of Clove essential oil is noted upon the first sensing of the aroma – it is quite strong, sharp and earthy. Clove oil has been found to be the strongest anti-oxidant of any essential oil, and is acomponent of 'longevity' formulas. It is also an extremely potent antibacterial, effective againsta broader range of microbes than any other oil except perhaps Oregano – Clove oil has even been employedto sterilize surgical instruments. Clove also has analgesic properties, and can be used to temporarily reducethe pain of toothache. Clove oil (or ground cloves) is also a component of Dr. Huda Clark's anti-parasiteprotocol, helping eliminate parasites from one's digestive system. This is a very powerful oil whichshould be diluted to 1% or less for topical application.

So, there we have a possible 'top ten' essential oils for the home medicine chest, a selectionwith an extremely broad range of uses for common ailments seen in a family setting. It is important to notethat all essential oils are powerful, and they should be treated with caution and respect. Always refer toa trusted source before making specific applications of any oil, as many can be irritating or possibly toxicif used incorrectly.

Pow Wow time is the Native American people's way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships and make new ones.

Today Pow Wow are held all across the North American continent, from small towns such as White Eagle, Oklahoma, to some of the largest, such as Los Angeles, Califoia. They can take place anywhere from cow pastures to convention centers, and occur year round. These festivals last only one weekend, but usually draw Native Americans and visitors from hundreds and even thousands of miles away.

Pow Wow is also a compilation of European folk magic that crossed the color line in America. During the 1940s, cheap newsprint editions of "The Black Pullet," "The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses," and the so-called "spurious" magical writings of Albertus Magnus were typically offered through the catalogues of Jewish-owned curio companies like King Novelty and Clover Ho, right alongside an assortment of policy players' dream books and pamphlets on "The Art of Kissing" and "How to Make Love."

However today I would like to talk about a completely different Pow Wow, neither sole Indian, nor solely European, but old remedies that were passed on from generation to generation. Many of these recipes still work today, except we don't call them Pow Wow, but natural herbs, organic herbs, holistic medicine, and/or just good old common sense. Here are a couple of non-medical examples:

To mend broken glass: take a common cheese and wash it well, unslaked lime and the white of eggs, rub all these well together until it becomes one mass, and then use it. If it is made right, it will certainly hold.

Here is another one for all you chicken owners:

To make chickens lay may eggs: take the dung of rabbits, pound it to powder, mix it with bran, wet the mixture till it forms lumps, and feed your chickens with it, and they will keep on laying a great many eggs.

Interesting. I should try this one day when I decide to raise chickens.

You have probably heard of Shamanic healing in the Amazon or the traditional medicinal plants in the mode Quepoan society in Costa Rica.

For example at the core of Shamanism is a strong relationship with Nature and an understanding that our ultimate survival depends upon this relationship. Shamans work with trees, stones, the waters, wind, and with the spirits that reside therein. Their awareness of the sanctity of life and their ability to communicate with a multitude of life forms gives them knowledge that is otherwise unavailable. Traveling in the spirit realm they receive wisdom and great power allowing them to overcome seemingly unconquerable obstacles.

In an article by the WSU Today, Prof Clark says: "Based on his experiences leaing from healers and medicine men takes time and participatory observation. Shamans don't respond to direct questions asked by typical weste scientists. Instead, one must become immersed in the culture and lifestyle over time to gain the greatest amount of knowledge."

Now, think of the old witch doctors who in their native lands were or in part still are healers who treat maladies caused by witchcraft. The Witch Doctor is able to ward off witchcraft or tu it back upon the supposed sender.

Just think of Africa where the traditional healers have been using ritual in combination with herbal remedies to treat Africa's people for generations. A number of these medicines seem to be effective where mode science has failed to find a cure. Yet for some reason, mode science is regarded as infallible, as an absolute truth. It is because of this faith in mode medicine that the traditional healers in Africa are now regarded as primitive witch doctors.

In going to over the Pow Wow, I noticed lots of human as well as animal, spiritual and non spiritual spells, wards and talismans. What an interesting book and I would highly recommend it, if for nothing else but interesting reading material. Great Christmas present, since it is the season that the days get shorter, while the nights are longer.

One last recipe since we all love a good beer:

To Make Good Beer: Take a handful of hops, five or six gallons of water, about three tablespoons of ginger, half a gallon of molasses; filter the water, hops and ginger into a tub containing the molasses.

Yummy. I guess I'll try that over the holidays.

Nature holds various useful resources which can be put to several uses. And this is what aromatherapy makes the best use of. Aromatherapy blends are a natural way to cure your problems.

Most people are surprised when I tell them that in Canada alone two people a day will die as a result of bleeding due to anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication. As a result of these tragedies, the drug companies produced the supposed answer to this dilemma. The Cox 2 Inhibitors such as Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra were supposed to be a far safer and effective medication. However, in late 2004 and early in 2005 the Cox 2 inhibitors were found to have serious adverse reactions.

In September of 2004, Vioxx was pulled from the market after a study showed that patients taking the drug had twice the risk of suffering a heart attack. In December, 2004, Pfizer announced that Celebrex more than doubled the risk of heart attack in a long term cancer trial. In addition, Bextra was also found to double the incidence of heart attack and stroke.

In light of all of these significant waing signs, increasing numbers of patients, particularly those with arthritis, are seeking pain relief through alteative methods -- and they're in luck. Patients can work with their own knowledgeable health care professional who understands natural medicine, to develop the best combination of herbal alteatives for them.

Alteatives to Anti-Inflammatory Medication:

1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids From Fish Oils: The omega-3 fats EPA and DHA found in fish oil have been found by many animal and clinical studies to possess anti-inflammatory properties that promote joint lubrication and decrease joint inflammation. Animal based omega-3 fats form the precursors to the molecules that actually produce or inhibit inflammation in your body (prostaglandins). That is why it is essential to make sure you are getting enough. It is also vital to understand that you need to reduce omega-6 fats like vegetable oils seeds and nuts, as it is actually the ratio of omega 6:3 fats that determines how much inflammation is present. You could theoretically consume enough omega-3 fish oils to work but then ruin the effect by consuming too many omega-6 fats.

2. Ginger: This herb is anti-inflammatory and offers pain relief and stomach-settling properties. Fresh ginger works well steeped in boiling water as a tea or grated into vegetable juice.

3. Bromelain Enzymes: This enzyme, found in pineapples, is a natural anti-inflammatory. It can be taken in supplement form, but eating fresh pineapple may also be helpful.

4. Cetyl Myristoleate (CMO): This oil, found in fish and dairy butter, acts as a "joint lubricant" and an anti-inflammatory. In one study of 106 people with various types of arthritis who did not respond to NSAIDs, 63.5 percent of those who took CMO orally and applied the cream topically (it's available both in oral supplement and cream forms) improved, compared to only 14.5 percent of those taking a placebo.

5. Boswellia: aka "boswellin" or "Indian frankincense," this herb contains specific active anti-inflammatory ingredients, referred to as boswellic acids that animal studies have shown significantly reduce inflammation. In a study of 175 patients with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, 122 participants had reduced stiffness and inflammation just two to four weeks after starting on boswellia.

6. Evening Primrose Oil (or borage oil or black current oil): These contain the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which is useful for treating arthritic pain. In one study of 37 rheumatoid arthritis patients, those who received 1.4 grams of GLA per day reduced the number of tender joints by 36 percent, the tendeess of the joints by 45 percent, the number of swollen joints by 28 percent, and the degree of joint swelling by 41 percent. The placebo group showed no significant improvements.

7. Cayenne Pepper: (capsaicin) in the form of cayenne cream: Also called capsaicin cream, this spice comes from dried hot peppers. It alleviates pain by depleting the body's supply of substance P, a chemical component of nerve cells that transmits pain signals to the brain.

8. White Willow Bark: Aspirin is made from the bark of the white willow. People have been using white willow bark for centuries as a mild pain reliever. White willow bark does not destroy the stomach lining on contact the way aspirin does, however, it does have the same blood thinning effect as aspirin and caution is indicated.

Consult your health professional today to see if these natural alteatives will provide you with the pain relief you deserve.

Body Calling All Natural Cures

Natural remedies can heal and have been around for centuries. They are affodable cost wise: vitamins, minerals, calcium supplements, digestive enzymes and essential oils. In the 1970's vitamins, minerals and natural enzymes were considered a cure for the fatal and terminal inherited disease Cystic Fibrosis. This research and discovery took the lifespan of 5 Year Old children into 30 years of age and some now into 60 years of age! The quality of life was dramatically increased 25 to 50 years to what was once only known as a "Childhood Disease". There is now a dire need for Physicians for "Adult Cystic Fibrosis" to help them maintain and continue optimal health. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, donated $20 Million dollars to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1999 due to the fact research was doing it's job helping to extend all these children's lives! The point is our bodies all need all natural herbs, vitamins, minerals, supplements, essential oils, fatty acids to reach optimal health. It has been proven over and over most problems go away and many diseases and "the New Diseases" or so they are now labeled "Disease" can be cured and or maintained.

Our society opts for an easy out, a drug, a new drug, the little purple pill, when in actuality they have many of the homeopathic remedies in their own cuboards at home! ie: Honey, a teaspoon a day is good for you especially when relocating to another state. The particular honey "bee's" help you build up immunities to the new environments you can be allergic to. Vinegar for acid- reflux, it works. Baking soda for Gingivitis and good oral health and hygene. Olive oil, the reason why Italian's live into their 100's! Don't forget the Wine which comes from one of the greatest forms of antioxidants: red grapes. Red grapes if given regularily to your children will reduce their chances of getting Cancer...Ever! Healthy people do not need drugs persay, yet they can be necessary.

Genetic therapy (drugs) are the latest and greatest in our mode science and technologies. For those families who cannot afford $5,000 perscriptions with $500 copays. Call your local health resources for help and referrals. But always remember there is a natural resource out there for almost everything. The original cures were only natural cures. Research shows vitamins are just as good as some of the drugs out there today.

With all the kissing, embracing, sensuous motions and the climaxing involved, sex does involve a lot of heavy breathing. This, as enjoyable as it may be, does dry out the airway passages and if one partner in a love-making session is asthmatic, sadly this could aggravate an attack…and, well end the fun stuff.

So what's a couple to do?

Certainly, you don't have to be celibate or have boring, heavily restricted sex, in due course we shall go over some helpful suggestions.

Now, for asthma patients, attacks induced by physical activities that involve heavy breathing are quite common. Needless to say, the general advice is to avoid these activities; however, a relationship where sex is avoided is bound to put a burden on both parties and inevitably may very well end it.

As a result to prevent a relationship going sour from no love making due to asthma, here are some tips to look into.

First, change your diet.

I can't stress that enough and if you want to keep the sex going in your relationship and more importantly improve your health, you will do well to heed that advice. You have got to give up all processed foods and animal products such as meat, milk, eggs and the like from your diet-plain and simple. These are mucus forming foods and we all know what one physical characteristic of asthma symptoms are: Mucus.

This is a fact that has been in effect in several programs aimed at correcting respiratory health such as the "Breath Retaining Program for Asthmatics" developed by the Russian, Dr. Buteyko. Within weeks of adhering to his advice, many a chronic asthmatic has been able to give up the use of ventolin inhalers.

Replace these items with mucus binding or non-mucus forming foods. These are quite simply fruits and vegetables. Make sure they are organic if possible or at least not in the list of the "dirty dozen" i.e. the ones most contaminated with pesticides such as Apples, Mexican Melons, Grapes etc…

Trust me on this; I'm speaking from experience, you will do very well to avoid the fruits in that list when it comes to asthma. Nonetheless you'd still be much better off steering clear of those food substances labeled as mucus-forming earlier on.

In addition, from my own experience, DO NOT CONSUME LIQUIDS WITH YOUR MEALS AT ANY TIME. This inhibits digestion by diluting the necessary juices in your stomach designated for that purpose. As a result, it hinders the much needed expansion of the diaphragm and consequently a constriction of the lungs- the bellows of life giving air- which results in the wheezing sounds any asthma patient is familiar with.

This dietetic change will help lay the foundation for the next factor which is to get back in shape. Perhaps the best choice for doing this may be Yoga.

There are specific yoga poses that target asthma owing to the effect of their positioning in regards to the airway passages. They include the Shoulder Stand Poses, The Fish Pose, the Head to Knee Pose and the Bow Pose. They are all very, very simple and it just dawned on me that each of these co-incidentally is useful for toning the organs used for sex!

Yoga's Sun Salutations are also very useful for correcting breathing, mildly exercising the entire body and restoring flexibility and fitness. (Need I mention these are two factors needed for love-making?)

For simple calisthenics, you can look into doing some reps of Hindu Squats and Hindu Push-ups. Both are extremely effective for attaining improved breath control and are total body workouts into themselves. Just don't worry about doing too many of them, if they are demanding, you can do fine with the yoga mentioned and of course you don't have to count out walking, dancing and hiking. (This is in the hopes that your dietetic habits are changed as suggested.)

Other simple steps to curb the effect of Asthma in your love life are to:

1. Avoid excessive temperature changes
2. Ensure dust mites are reduced as much as possible in your home
3. Use a humidifier in the cold seasons.
4. Of course, not have sex right after meals…(not even about asthma here folks)
5. Keep fresh air circulating in the rooms at home as much as possible.

Things may not change oveight, nothing that drastic does; however, with these simple steps, in a short time, being hindered by asthma in regards to expressing love through sex will be a thing in the distant past.

Here's to free breathing…and hopefully a happier relationship.

Fish Out Of Water

We measure our world by the limits of our knowledge and experience. If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to treat everything like nails. Bigotry, bias, and prejudice are all words that describe this limited view (hammer) each of us tends to embrace and apply.

A dog does not comprehend poetry, nor does an infant calculus. The worlds of the dog and of the child are extremely limited in scope. For the dog it is predominantly genetically determined. Even if a dog would like to understand poetry, it couldn't and will never grow into it either. On the other hand, a child's view of the world can expand continually throughout life. Unfortunately, as we get into our teenage years and become certain that our knowledge encompasses just about all that could be known – certainly more than both parents combined – we become increasingly arrogant, and with this arrogance, closed minded. Intellectual growth can actually stop by about the age of 13, with vocabulary serving as an index of this growth and not increasing significantly for most people after this age.

With that as a preface, let me say that it is easy for us to believe that the world we were bo into is the only real world. Fluorescent lights, conditioned air, automobiles, pop, French fries, television, and polyester may seem like the only real and natural world for humans. Without the perspective of history, there would be no way of knowing any differently.

But we do have history. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which occurred about 200 years ago, we were by and large in an entirely different setting. We spent the majority of our time outside and without any of the mode conveniences and technologies we have come to believe to be as natural and automatic as a tree or the wind.

Our genes, however, are not equally convinced. They remain encoded for the natural world. They are, in fact, an inward definition of the exteal natural, pre-Industrial, more pristine world.

In this new mode synthetic world we are increasingly alienating our basic biological make up. We are like fish taken out of water.

The accompanying charts demonstrate the dramatic change occurring just in the last 100 years.

(see http://www.wysong.net/images/graph1.jpg)

(see http://www.wysong.net/images/graph2.jpg)

(see http://www.wysong.net/images/graph3.jpg)

(see http://www.wysong.net/images/graph4.jpg)

(see http://www.wysong.net/images/graph5.jpg)

This is only a small representation of the dramatic changes our mode world has produced related just to food. On a broader environmental scale, human activity rivals the natural processes that have built the biosphere. About 40% of the earth's photosynthetic capacity (plant growth) is now appropriated for human use. The biologically available nitrogen and phosphorus used by humans for fertilizer and chemicals about equals the amount produced by nature. We apparently can alter our atmosphere on a global scale (ozone, Cheobyl, greenhouse gases). Huge numbers of species stand on the curling tip of a wave of extinction – and the list goes on.

Though it seems presumptuous to suggest that we, here, now in this generation are unique in all of history, the evidence supports that we are. We are a pivotal generation that can either tu things around or continue to fuel a degrading environmental/health spiral that soon, if unaltered by us, will continue in spite of any efforts we make later to change things.

Scary? Yes, indeed. But we need to get scared if that's what it takes to wake up. We are, without a doubt, a very special generation with the weight of the world's future literally on our shoulders.

Don't despair. You, yes little ole puny you, can do much. Everything ever done always began with one. Act on the things you know to be right, healthy, socially responsible, and environmentally sensitive.

Yes, you. Yes, now. Yes, there is no downside in doing so.

Definition Of Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of chemical agents to treat or control diseases. It works by killing fast dividing cells like cancerous cells and other healthy cells which include hair follicles, bone marrow, reproductive system etc.

You would get anxious at the mention of chemotherapy for above reasons but there is not much cause for worry as healthy cells regenerate fast after the therapy is complete. Chemotherapy is either used exclusively or in combination with radiation or surgical therapies.

Advantages
Unlike radiation, which kills cancer cells in the target area, chemotherapy is universal and treats the entire body. This attacks the untreated cancer cells from the previous cancer too. Doctors use chemotherapy depending on the spread and type of cancer to

·Destroy cancer cells from the body, no withstanding its wide spread
·Prolong life expectancy by controlling cancer growth and spread
·Alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life

Chemotherapy Types and Methodology
Chemotherapy is not always based on a single drug for the fear of developing resistance to the drug. On the other hand a combination has different actions at the cellular level and kills more cancer cells preventing further spread. Your doctor decides on the combination considering your age, tolerance limit, and health. Mind you, all such combinations are tested on patients with similar conditions.

A few representative types.

1.Alkylating agents, deter the replication of DNA, prevents cancer cell growth.
2.Antimetabolites, block the enzyme supply to cancer cells on which they thrive.
3.Anti-tumor antibiotics change cell membranes by blocking enzyme supply led cell division. These are not the general antibiotics.
4.Nitrosoureas obstruct the ways DNA is repaired by enzymes.
5.Mitotic inhibitors inhibit cell division by hindering enzymes essential in the cell reproduction.

Chemotherapy is administered cyclically considering the type of drugs and your condition. Chemotherapy drugs travel thru the entire body, so there are four ways devised for administration.

1.Intravenous method where drug is injected into your veins.
2.Oral chemotherapeutic pills to swallow.
3.Topical application (ointments) for skin cancers.
4.Intramuscular injection.

Side Effects
On the lighter side there are side effects like vomiting, nausea, hair loss, dry mouth, constipation and loss of appetite etc. Beware, some problems like damages to heart, lungs and kidneys show much after the treatment. Urinating blood and nervous damage and attack of secondary cancers like lymphoma, leukemia is not ruled out.

Also known as rectal irrigation, an enema involves the injection of fluid into the rectum. In nature cure treatment, only lukewarm water is used for cleaning the bowels. The patient is made to lie on his left side extending his left leg and bending the right leg slightly. The enema nozzle, lubricated with oil or vaseline, is inserted in the rectum. The enema can containing the lukewarm water is then slowly raised and water is allowed to enter into the rectum. Generally, one to two litres of water is injected. The patient may either lie down on his back or walk a little while retaining the water. After five to 10 minutes, the water can be ejected along with the accumulated morbid matter.

A warm water enema helps to clean the rectum of accumulated faecal matter.

This is not only the safest system for cleaning the bowels, but also improves the peristaltic movement of the bowels and thereby relieves constipation. A cold water enema is helpful in inflammatory conditions of the colon, especially in cases of dysentery, diarrhoea, ulcerative colitis, haemorrhoids and fever. A hot water enema is beneficial in relieving irritation due to inflammation of the rectum and painfull haemorrhoids. It also benefits women in leucorrhoea.

There have been a lot of negative reviews of the consequences of consuming coffee, tea or eating chocolate because of the amount of caffeine that these substances contain.

There might be a silver lining to the caffeine cloud though and that's how caffeine can play an important role in boosting your memory.

Often we experience short term memory problems. At times it can be whether we tued off the water after we brushed our teeth or if we locked the door before we went to bed.

These things can nag at our minds enough that we tu our car around to make certain that we won't be faced with a flood because of running water or we jump out of bed only to find that we did indeed lock the door.

Life is busy and it's easy to forget some of the smaller things that we take for granted. Our minds might have trouble focusing because of a conflict at work or stress at home.

This isn't an uncommon occurrence and it happens everyday to people of every age. Losing track of tiny details is common but certainly not something that we need to live with.

There are steps that we can take to improve our memory enough that we never have to deal with having our minds filled with those nagging thoughts again.

If you find that you're one of the people who can't put their finger on certain small facts and it has become a frustration for you, it might be time to consider the benefit of caffeine in relation to short term memory.

Caffeine is a stimulant and it works to stimulate not only our hearts but our minds as well. It can give a person the extra boost they need to clear their mind.

Many people feel the need to have a cup of coffee each moing so they can focus. The caffeine that is found within the coffee jolts the brain and the memory can retain more information.

You probably know someone who says that they can't function until they've had their coffee. It appears that there's more truth in that statement than most of us have ever realized. That first cup of moing coffee gets the memory gears moving in many people.

This can be especially important for many people at work. Having the ability to retain important information is essential for their employment.

If they find their memory lacking it could have serious consequences that stretch far beyond some of the minor annoyances that they might experience at home when they forget to do things.

A cup of coffee or tea in the moing might be just the prescription to boost the memory enough that the rest of the day you function at full memory capacity.

The same can be said for the lull that many people experience by mid-afteoon.

Having a piece of chocolate or a cup of hot chocolate stimulates your memory again and the rest of the day will flow as smoothly as the beginning did.

During my years of research for Earache prevention, I found that repeated allergies, sinus, and ear infections are the result of a "weakened immune system" mainly due to "antibiotic overuse." Antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria in the colon resulting in poor digestion and impaired absorption of nutrients. So even when I gave my son a healthy diet and vitamin supplements, he was still having chronic earaches and sinusitis, because he was not absorbing needed nutrients to keep his immune system healthy and strong.

In addition to impaired absorption, antibiotics damage the mucosa (the inner lining of the small intestines) so toxins that should normally exit the body, get absorbed into the blood stream instead. Toxins in the blood stream can cause various allergic reactions such as hives, body aches, sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. Runny noses and fluid buildup provide the breeding ground for bacterial ear infections.

A simple remedy is to supplement with Lactobacillus Acidophilus (friendly flora), which is a good bacteria that will repair the mucosa by replenishing the natural balance of friendly flora in the colon that the antibiotics has destroyed. For supplement info see link below.

Other factors that wear down the immune system are:

  • Stress
  • Poor diet
  • Lack of sleep
  • Food allergies
  • Food additives
  • Food preservatives
  • Environmental toxins
  • Toxins from protein digestion

There are thousands of man-made chemicals today that did not exist a hundred years ago. Today our children's immune systems are overloaded with toxins and have to work harder to remove them. Working overtime causes the immune system to run out of essential elements (necessary oils and enzymes), which are the fuel it needs to carry on. When your tank is out of gas you fill it up, right? And likewise, our immune system is no different. To fuel up we need "basic building blocks" called "amino acids" (protein) and "essential oils" (omega 3) in order to strengthen the immune system heal chronic diseases. Toxic overload without regular refueling will cause the immune system and the liver to buout out. The end result is low "immune system function."

Cutting back on processed foods that have toxic food additives and preservatives can make a huge difference in the health of you and your child. Replace processed foods with whole fruits, grains, and vegetables. You will be surprised how much better your child will feel. In addition, their attention span will improve and hyperactivity will be diminished.

One of the most common processed foods to eliminate is white sugar. Excess dietary sugar is toxic to the body and promotes fungal infections in the gut, ear, nose and throat. Many chronic earaches and sinus problems are actually fungal infections. Instead use an All-Natural Sugar substitute that is safe for kids called Xylitol. In fact, Xylitol actually prevents infections.

The goal to long-term healing is to get the immune system strong again.

  • First, by improving digestion using natural digestive enzymes thus improving absorption of nutrients.
  • Second, is to identify and remove allergens. Research shows that the vast majority of kids with chronic earaches & sinus infections are allergic to wheat, diary, and beef. So eliminating or reducing these foods will bring help bring healing. Alteative food choices are yogurt, soymilk, lactaid milk, rice, oats, and etc.
  • Third, limiting or eliminating proteins from cow products and replacing them with easily digestible proteins such as yogurt, beans, and whey protein powder drinks. Protein powder drinks are chock full of essential and nonessential amino acids that do not need to be digested only absorbed, are very helpful because protein drink mixes are quick and easy to fix. Why should you eliminate cow proteins?

  1. This is because allergic kids usually have problems digesting proteins and lack "protease", which is an enzyme needed for protein digestion.
  2. In addition, allergic kids have trouble removing the metabolic waste from protein digestion due to enzyme deficiency.
  3. Last and most important is the fact that milk products produce excess flem and mucous in throat and sinuses.

Short-term healing can be achieved by:

  • Adding all-natural antibiotics in addition to your doctor's care. Natural antibiotics (colloidal silver) can be administered both topically (ear drops & sinus sprays) and orally. My experience when using natural antibiotic eardrops is that ear pain is gone usually within an hour.

  • Making a fresh juice cocktail of carrots, apples, beets, and spinach gives "superior nutrition" and tons of antioxidants very quickly.

  • Giving lactobacillus acidophilus to restore floral balance in the colon.

Other helpful strategies include:

  • Drink more water and eat more fresh unprocessed foods.
  • Get thirty minutes of exercise and sunshine each day.

  1. Exercise creates enzymes in the mitochondria of cells to bu fat, buing fat = getting rid of toxins from the body. For more information see link below and email me for a free e-book.
  2. Sunshine is needed for the body to make Vitamin D3. Most kids and elderly folks cannot convert Vitamin D2 supplements into D3 the active form in the body, so their immune system is lacking vitamin D3. D3 is necessary to help the immune system recognize & fight invaders.

The "Key" to "Sinus Infection Cure" and "Earache Prevention" is to get the immune system healthy again by using natural antibiotics, eliminating toxins, and by improving digestion thus increasing absorption of nutrients. Once absorption is improved healthy food and supplementation is necessary to replenish the immune system. Achieving all this strengthens the immune system so the body can heal itself.

IMPROVED DIGESTION AND ABSORPTION = BETTER NUTRITION = HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM

According to the latest British Joual of Nutrition (2005;93:895–9), supplementing with an extract of bilberry fruit (Vaccinium myrtillus) may improve night vision in nearsighted people. That's good news for those of you who may have to cope with bothersome night blindness!

Bilberry, a close relative of the blueberry, is a small shrub that grows throughout central and northe Europe, northe Asia, and North America. Traditionally, due to its powerful tannin content, bilberry has been used to treat diarrhea, hemorrhoids, and urinary tract infections. Others preliminary studies have indicated bilberry's effectiveness in addressing microcirculatory conditions, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and other retinal disorders. The active compounds of bilberry, Anthocyanosides, are potent antioxidants which have been noted to promote and strengthen capillaries and blood vessels.

While the majority of bilberry's research has been conducted in vitro, there has been a close correlation between bilberry and its ability to regenerate a compound in the eye (rhodopsin) that is responsible for night vision. Specifically, rhodopsin, also known as visual purple, lies within the rod cells of your eye, and is extremely sensitive to low levels of light. In fact, when exposed to white light, rhodopsin is immediately bleached and takes approximately 30 minutes to regenerate in humans.

Nearsightedness, or myopia, affects up to one quarter of Americans. Those afflicted with myopia often describe distant objects as being blurry, yet most with myopia are able to see nearby objects quite clearly. This condition occurs from the eye being longer than the focal point, and is shaped much like a football. Individuals with nearsightedness are also at greater risk for acute eye problems such as glaucoma or retinal detachment, and often experience floaters, dryness, tearing, and of course, poor night vision.

The new study from the Department of Ophthalmology, Institute of Vision Research, Yonsei University in Seoul Korea was aimed at determining the effects of bilberry extract on night vision and other symptoms associated with nearsightedness. The study examined 60 individuals with mild to moderate myopia. Thirty of the participants received 100mg of bilberry extract (containing 85% anthocyanosides) two times per day, and the remaining thirty received a placebo pill. Contrast sensitivity, a measure of noctual vision, was tested before and after treatment. The participants also answered questions regarding the frequency and severity of their eye symptoms including eye strain, dryness, tearing, blurry vision, and decreased vision in dark places.

Twenty-two (73%) of the 30 participants receiving the bilberry supplement showed significantly greater improvement in eye symptoms and contrast sensitivity, suggesting an improvement in night vision. In contrast, only 1 of the 30 participants in the placebo group showed any signs of improvement. Additionally, no side effects were associated with use of the bilberry supplement.

This study provides good evidence that bilberry may help to improve night vision in those afflicted with myopia. Previous studies on healthy individuals indicated that bilberry has no effect on night vision, however, these studies utilized bilberry preparations with much lower concentrations of anthocyanosides (5 to 30%), and they were administered for shorter periods of time.

Mom was right to insist on us eating our vegetables. She knew they built health and gave us the minerals we need. Now scientists have found that we can eat foods to help us both prevent cancer and fight cancer.

Take Broccoli sprouts. Broccoli sprouts are rich in a compound that provides significant protection against breast cancer and colon cancer. The compound is called sulforaphane glucosinalate.

Sprouts grown from certain types of broccoli seeds contain up to 50 times more of this compound than mature broccoli to help you fight cancer.

My research shows that a brand of sprouts developed at John Hopkins University is guaranteed to have 20 more times the SGS compound than the mature broccoli. This one is called BroccoSprouts. You can purchase broccoli sprouts at your local health food store or grocery store.

It is possible that Broccoli sprouts could carry the bacteria that make you sick - salmonella and e.coli, so you may want to take them out of the container when you get them home and soak in a bowl of water with a few drops of grapefruit seed extract for three or four minutes.

Don't put the sprouts back in the same container unless you soak that as well. After draining them for a few minutes store them in the refrigerator.

With Breast cancer and Colon cancer so common these days, be sure to add in this protective food, assisting your body to fight off illness and cancer.

Feeling Sluggish Try A Colonic Cleanse

A colonic cleanse can clear the body of unwanted toxins that have accumulated due to environmental pollution as well as the poor eating habits of our society. Each day industrial poisons enter our bodies and they are not always eliminated. These accumulated poisons can be the source of many different diseases and a colonic cleanse eliminates them before they can become a problem.

Many of these poisons are found in processed foods. They slowly build up in the intestines and create a barrier which prevents the normal absorption of healthy nutrients by the body. This results in lower energy levels and higher risk levels for disease. A colonic cleanse will rid the intestines of this barrier and will result in higher energy levels and a general feeling of well-being.

The colon will let you know when it needs a colonic cleanse. Some of the symptoms of a clogged or dirty colon are such diseases as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), gas, bloating, stomach pain, and chronic fatigue. If you have tried other methods to eliminate these problems and nothing works, then try a colonic cleanse. There's a very real possibility that a colonic cleanse will eliminate most if not all of these symptoms.

Not only will a colonic cleanse help eliminate the above mentioned symptoms and diseases it will also help eliminate such problems as constipation, parasites, bad breath, headaches, irritability, hemorrhoids, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, and frequent colds. If this sounds like a miracle drug, it's not. A colonic cleanse merely allows the body to do what it's suppose to do, i.e. properly digest and assimilate nutrients from the foods we eat. Without this proper digestion and absorption of food the body can not function correctly. Thus a colonic cleanse aids the body in doing what it is supposed to do.

It is estimated that the average adult human being has between five to forty pounds of waste in their bowels and it is this waste that a colonic cleanse eliminates. There are several ways to go about cleaning the colon one of the ways is through an enema. An enema inserts water or some other liquid through the rectum into the lower bowel. It is effective in eliminating constipation but does not necessarily cleanse the entire colon.

Another and some think more effective way of handling a colonic cleanse is through herbal supplements. A common herbal supplement is psyllium based, and although it will help you empty your bowels it does not necessary clear away any barriers that have built up over time. This is also true of laxatives which can cause dehydration and other problems.

A colonic cleansing diet is yet another way to cleanse the colon. Eliminating sugars, fast foods, and processed foods and adding fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and the healthy oils such as olive oil to your diet will help the intestines process the incoming nutrients and flush away accumulated toxins in the colon.

As you can see, a colonic cleanse is a necessary part of any wellness plan, the only thing you have to do is decide which colonic cleanse is the best one for you.

Long nights, short days, sweaters, warm clothes and chilly weather make many of us sick and depressed. This depression which surfaces especially in winter is a Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and is often called as winter Time Blues or Winter depression. The exact cause for this depression is as of yet unclear. But yet few scientists believe lack of exposure to sunlight as the reason for this disorder.

The symptoms of winter depression are tendency to over eat, craving for carbohydrates and sweets and weight gain.

Had our ancestors observed this change in humans? The answer is yes. Have they recommended any remedies? Yes, they have recommended simple and effective natural remedies to overcome Seasonal Affective Disorder. They have laid down explicit guidelines about diet and lifestyles which have to be followed according to seasons.

The winter season is marked as Hemanta ritu and Sisira ritu in ayurveda. Hemanta ritu starts from mid November and ends in mid January. This falls in southe solstice which is called as visarga kala or dakshinayana in ayurveda. Sisira ritu starts from mid January and lasts till middle of march. Sisira ritu falls in Northe solstice which is called as Aadana kaala or uttaraayana.

The response of human body to this season is very well explained in ayurveda. People will have increased strength and their digestion capacity is increased .This is marked by increased hunger. These symptoms are caused by increased body fire which is supported by vata. Vata inside body increases in winter because of cold and dryness which is prevalent in outer atmosphere.
The winter time depression is noticed mostly in persons who have vata as major constituent in their prakriti or body constitution. The cause for this type of change is longer nights of winter.

Light therapy is recommended by doctors for winter time blues. Exposure to artificial light may cause headache , Irritability ,Eye strain , Inability to sleep and fatigue. Exposure to sunlight and if sunlight is not available sitting near fireplace is the remedy suggested in Ayurveda.

Keeping the home well lit with lights help to reduce the intensity of depression.

Moderate exercise like yoga is another remedy for winter depression. Ayurveda recommends oil massage (abhyanga) to body and head (moordha taila.). Indulging in sexual act to keep the moods elevated and to keep the body warm is another strongly suggested ayurvedic remedy.

Meeting friends who are kind and understanding boosts morale and brightens up the day. Spending time with friends on the beach helps to expose your body to sunlight and keeps your spirits high.

Relaxing with meditation, massage , light music and laughter helps to great extent.

The following ayurvedic tips help to prevent and reduce the intensity of seasonal disorder of winter, the winter time blues.
1. Expose yourself to sunlight as much as you can. In absence of sun light sitting near fire place is very helpful.

2. Massage your body with vata balancing herbal oil (abhyanga). Never forget to apply oil on your head (moordha taila.).

3. Then remove the oil by taking hot water bath. A mixture of flours of yellow gram (channa), green gram (moong) , fenu greek seeds (methi) in equal proportion is the best herbal scrub which can be used to remove the oil. This mixture prevents the washing of natural oil from skin.

4. Consume hot soups.

5. Use vata balancing foods like wheat, oil, co, black gram and jaggery.

6. Tickle your taste buds with sweet, sour and salt tastes

7. Always use hot water for all daily routine activity.

8. Use thick blankets and sheets made of cotton, silk and wool.

9. Always wear foot wear.

10. Indulge in sexual act.

11. Spend your leisure time with friends and relatives whom you like.

Have you been feeling a little blue lately. Statistics claim that an estimated half a million people suffer each winter from a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder. Sometimes this can bring on severe depression along with weight gain. For many of us it is only a re-adjusting time that makes us feel a little blue.

What causes these blue feelings? Due to the lessening of sunlight hours received our brain chemicals can become imbalanced causing us to feel more tired, moody and more apt to eat more. It is often referred to as "The Winter Blues".

Personally, it tends to hit me when we tu the clocks back in October and continues until the spring comes.

Even animals are affected by this seasonal change. The Hibeation instinct is very strong.

What can we do to help lift our spirits? THINK ORANGE!!!!

Yes, Aromatherapy can help you out with it's sweet citrus Essential Oils. All of the citrus oils will help but I find Orange a great pick me up…following close behind is Grapefruit

How can we incorporate this into our daily lives? We can easily diffuse orange essential oil in a diffuser on our desk or work area. We can also add Orange Essential Oil to our dishwashing liquid and cleaners. It is great for cleaning up.

Be careful not to use cold pressed citrus oils on the skin as it may cause photosensitivity. Even though there is not as much sunlight in the winter there are still some UV rays shining so the best bet is to keep citrus oils off of your skin.

By the way, adding a few drops of cinnamon to the orange in the diffuser makes a lovely warm, wintery scent!
