Over 100 different types of arthritis exist, but by far the most common are the "osteo" and the "rheumatoid" varieties. Both may be subject to influence by your subconscious through the use of visualization statements.

Visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious wants you to read back to it to help ease your pain. They're simple and are targeted directly at the main factors that could bring you relief.

You can obtain these statements by leaing how to communicate directly with your own subconscious mind. The process is straightforward and can be done at home by working with a facilitator over the telephone. You you need no special skills and no previous experience in working with the subconscious.

Here's a recap of the two major forms of arthritis, and the role that your subconscious may be able to play to help bring relief:

Osteoarthritis

Arthritis literally means "joint inflammation." But oddly enough, the form of arthritis that is most common in the world--osteoarthritis--generally does not involve inflammation.

In a healthy joint, a spongy material called cartilage covers the ends of the bones so that they don't rub up against one another. In osteoarthrtitis, either due to a genetic cause, repeated overuse, or some other reason, the cartilage becomes less elastic over time. This makes it susceptible to damage and deterioration.

As the cartilage wears away, bones may rub together, the tendons and ligaments in the joint may become stiff, bone spurs may appear, and other abnormalities may occur. The result is that the joint becomes painful. Cartilage has no blood supply, and can be nourished only through movement. But pain reduces movement, making the problem worse.

Inflammation is generally not a problem in osteoarthritis, but permanent joint damage is. If the subconscious is brought in before permanent damage has occurred, visualizations may be able to help increase the flexibility of your cartilage and the surrounding tendons and ligaments. Even a slight increase in elasticity may be enough to alleviate some of the pain.

We have not yet worked with a participant who has osteoarthritis. But we have had good results working with back and extremity pain, which involves focusing the subconscious on increasing the elasticity of tendons and ligaments. If it has provided elasticity there, it may be able to do the same for cartilage.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Like osteoarthritis, the rheumatoid variety (called RA) involves a problem with cartilage--but it occurs for an entirely different reason.

In RA, your immune system mistakenly attacks the joints. It sends in white blood cells, which produce chemicals that cause inflammation. This swells the joint lining and wears down the cartilage, narrowing the space between the bones. As the cartilage wears away and the inflammation continues, the joint becomes swollen, tender, painful, and difficult to move.

While we have not yet worked directly with RA, we have worked with psoriatic arthritis pain, which produces joint inflammation in a way similar to RA. Visualizing that the immune T-cells are put into action only when the body is truly attacked by an outside invader seems to work for some cases of psoriatic arthritis, and may possibly work for rheumatoid arthritis.

Reducing the Pain Signal

Imbalances of the joints or the immune system such as the above are a major trigger of pain signals in arthritis. Putting these factors back in balance is thus a preventive measure, one that helps to keep the pain signal from being generated in the first place.

But an important part of your pain relief strategy also needs also to be to attempt to reduce the pain signal once it has been generated. This can be approached by focusing the subconscious on numerous chemical weak points (we call them leverage points) where it may be possible to use visualizations to reduce the pain signal.

If you can lea to engage your subconscious, you most likely will be able to identify which leverage points apply to you. You can then use visualization statements to give your subconscious the daily reinforcement it needs to possibly take the edge off your pain at those points.

Ayurveda is the essence of old Hindu Medicare techniques, which are based on the curing the diseases from the roots. In Ayurveda, whole body is supposed as a mutually responding system. A single part not responding well may cause a disturbance in all body. Ayurveda works for the aim of complete health.

Allopathic techniques are based on the concept of sudden and instantaneous relief, so often the patient get rid of his problem for a short period, but the origin of disease is not eliminated, finally there comes the probability in future for that origin to be worse. Allopathic techniques uses antigen that introduces a chemical, heaving opposite effect of what the body is producing. So there is always a risk with the power and supplied quantity of the drug.

On the other hand, Ayurvedic Medicare is based on natural and herbal techniques and supplements, which are 100% side effect free. Ayurveda does not believe in antidotes and antigens, very rarely those techniques are used, Ayurveda works not to suppress the system of body, but to go to the origin and cure the basic disturbing element. In such treatments there are very low chances of side effect and the benefit of the body is forever. It gives you a complete health treatment, which works on the complete body system so it makes you feel better in your entire body.

If you eat 1 apple a day and one day suddenly eat 3, it'll not cause any problem for you, but if you take 2 sleeping pills a day and one day you takes 4, it'll be dangerous; most of the supplements of Ayurveda are essence of fruits, vegetables and jadi-booties, which are natures gift to human. Jadi-booties are some of the rarely found wild plants and fruits, which are very effective in some dieses. In old age, students of Ayurveda were taught the classification of every single kind of plants exits; they used to give long time to find those jadi-booties in jungles, rocks & mountains. In mode age of globalization some of the companies and groups are doing that work collectively, so now it is easy for us to use those techniques, which were once very costly even for the kings.

Ayurveda works in all directions, it not only gives the body what it wants but it prevents harmful supplements. The concept of 'Parheja', in Ayurveda, is the concept restricting the harmful food and supplements that disturbs the treatment.

Ayurvedic techniques are developed in ashramas of Hindu saints and researchers. This Medicare is the result of long time, generation-to-generation research work. It is well tasted and well proven in the history of India that is one of the worlds oldest cultures, In mode age, when pollution and effects of intoxications are disturbing the systems of the body and a normal human is getting weaker due to luxurious life; Ayurveda, along with yoga and exercises is the way to have a healthy body and a sound mind.

Taking in to account all the benefits of ayurveda we can expect a rise in the popularity of ayurvedic medicines in the forthcoming year. Surveys have showed that many patients have received positive results from ayurvedic treatment, thus in a few years ayurveda is sure to bring about a revolution in the field of medicines.

Dr. Tarun Sachdeva writes on ayurveda at Ayurvedic-Medicines.com - Treating diseases with the magic of ayurveda, also lists many home remedies.

Repetitive strain injuries (RSI's) like carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) are costing consumers, private business and insurance companies more than $100 billion in lost revenue each year.

According to The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research , " Musculoskeletal disorders are the country's most costly category of workplace injuries and illnesses. In addition to spending $20 billion annually on workers' compensation costs due to RSIs (Like Carpal tunnel syndrome), the U.S. spends another $100 billion on lost productivity, employee tuover, and other indirect expenses.

The goal of every private business and insurance company should be to cut costs, and this goal can only be met when carpal tunnel syndrome and other "tunnel syndrome" disorders are addressed in a scope of "prevention" rather than after the fact and have to address the injury through "rehabilitation" methods. Rehabilitation costs to businesses and insurance companies are much greater than costs associated with prevention, and has an even higher toll on the individual afflicted with the disorder (carpal tunnel) in terms of both psychological and physical damages.

The key to cutting costs associated with CTS and RSI's is "prevention", which can be achieved through a variety of methods. By implementing the methods listed below, overall costs can be reduced dramatically and optimum health and productivity of the individual can be maintained.

Job Rotation: Individuals that rotate tasks, including the amount of force they utilize for each task and the amount of time each task is performed reveals a great reduction in the level of carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive strain injuries.

Stretch / Exercise Breaks: Taking a short break every 30-45 minutes is key to reducing the onset of repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome. The most important prevention element on this list is to perform appropriate exercises and stretches to improve circulation and keep the muscles in tune and balanced. (For a good list of stretches and exercises, speak to the employee health director or to a certified therapist)

Workstation: Operating in the correct environment is "key" to reducing the possibility of getting carpal tunnel syndrome. Proper seating, a good keyboard, computer screen, mouse, desk set-up, positioning, etc. is critical to reducing the amount of strain experienced on a daily basis.

Tools: When using tools for assembly and construction, you must be sure that they are properly designed to fit you, not someone else.

To save as much money as possible for everyone involved, it is wise to implement as many of the elements listed above. By addressing all angles conceivable, the chances of an injury reduce dramatically and workers stay healthy. When workers are healthy, productivity and output increase, reducing healthcare costs and increasing the bottom line for all.

Jeff Anliker, LMT, is a Therapist and Inventor of Therapeutic Exercise Products that are utilized by Corporations, Consumers and Medical Facilities around the world for the prevention and rehabilitation of repetitive strain injuries. repetitive-strain.com

Emerging medical research indicates that an ancient health therapy may be the prescription for the future. Increasingly the menopausal problems of hormonal imbalance, often resulting in bone loss, are also affected by depression and stress. Change is stressful for all of us, even good changes, like changes of life. Maturity is a good thing, yet the stress of major life changes can result in stress and depression, which according to emerging research may further aggravate the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause. Is there any escape from this catch-22? Yes, although this may seem overwhelming in its scope, there may be great news. An ancient Chinese natural health therapy, known as Tai Chi, may help alleviate many of the aggravating symptoms of menopause in profoundly healthful ways.

Of course only your physician can help you decide what is right for your personal therapy as you enter the menopausal transition. However, you may find that you need to educate your physician regarding the benefits Tai Chi may offer you at this important time in your life. Or, perhaps if you ask around you may find a physician who has already educated himself or herself about the benefits Tai Chi may offer all women, but definitely has much to offer women entering menopause.

Emerging research indicates that Tai Chi can help reduce the incidence of depression, anxiety, and mood disturbance in regular practitioners. In a Prevention Magazine report entitled, "Tai Chi May Relieve Anxiety and Depression," Donal P. O'Mathuna, Ph.D., a lecturer in Health Care Ethics at the School of Nursing in Dublin City University, Ireland says that, ". . . . evidence there is suggests that the benefits of tai chi extend beyond those of simply exercising. The combination of exercise, meditation, and breathing all may help relieve anxiety and depression. . ." In its article entitled, "Tai chi," the Mayo Clinic staff at MayoClinic.com stated that preliminary research shows that practicing Tai Chi regularly may not only reduce anxiety and depression, but also increase bone mineral density after menopause. This was echoed by a report in http://www.intelihealth.com by Natural Standard and the Faculty of Harvard Medical School.

This is a very important finding, and begins to make even more sense, when you consider the National Institutes of Mental Health reports that the stress hormones found in depressed women caused bone loss that gave them bones of women nearly twice their age. Exactly why Tai Chi offers such benefit may be explained by a study from Australia's La Trobe University that found that Tai Chi reduced levels of stress hormones more effectively than some other forms of activity. (Details at: www.senioet.org/php/default.php?PageID=6055).

But, no matter how you slice it, research is indicating that Tai Chi may be a "very" effective multi-level beneficial therapy for women. A Chinese study reported in the December 2004 "Physician and Sportsmedicine" found that tai chi could retard bone loss among postmenopausal women significantly. Bone mineral density was measured before and after the study period. Both groups experienced general bone loss, but the rate of bone loss for the Tai Chi group was less than in the control group. In fact, the Tai Chi practicing group of women slowed bone loss by 2.6 to 3.6 times more. The study reported, "Bone loss was 2.6 to 3.6 times slower (p<.01) in the distal tibia in the [Tai Chi] exercise group compared with bone loss in the control group."

Back in 1999, before these studies began showing that Tai Chi may actually improve bone density, or at the least dramatically slow bone loss, the "Joual of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery's" 1999; 7:19-31, reported that "…Coupled with drug therapy should be a comprehensive approach to exercise and fall prevention. Stretching, strengthening, impact, and balance exercises are effective. Of the balance exercises, tai chi chuan has proved to be the most successful in decreasing falls.." This was because falling injuries are a grave health risk for all aging Americans, but given the dangers of osteoporosis for women, an especially important conce. In fact the sixty leading cause of death for aging Americans is complication from falling injuries. However, research has shown time and time again in major medical studies, such as John's Hopkins, that Tai Chi can reduce the incidence of falling injuries by 50% in those who practice Tai Chi. So, even before emerging research began to show that Tai Chi may contribute to stronger bones in menopausal women perhaps by reducing stress hormone levels and providing a gentle weight bearing exercise, it was know that Tai Chi was a powerful therapy to reduce falling injury.

Now, there may be even more benefit ancient Chinese health therapies can offer to relieve the discomfort of life changes. Tai Chi is known as a general therapeutic form of "Qigong" (pronounced chee gung) exercise. Qigong means "energy exercise" or "breathing exercise" in Chinese. This indicates that Qigong combines gentle motion, or physical stimulation, with breathing techniques, and visualization/relaxation techniques to achieve substantial health benefits. There are over 7,000 Qigong therapies in the Chinese Medica (the Traditional Chinese Book of Medicine). Tai Chi, again, is a highly sophisticated general health Qigong practice, therefore this Qigong research may be relevant to the Tai Chi's applications for those in menopause. An interesting study at healthy.net, revealed that sex hormone levels may be balanced by the practice of Qigong exercises (http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?id=382). The report stated, "…female sex hormone (estrogen) levels tend to increase in men and decrease in women. Three studies indicate that qigong exercise can reverse this trend. The effect of qigong exercise on plasma sex hormone levels was determined for hypertensive men and women. The sex hormones levels were measured before and after qigong practice for one year…" Results showed that high estrodiol levels in men lowered to near normal, and low estrodial levels in women raised to near normal after qigong practice.

Medline Plus, a service of the National Instututes of Health's March 3, 2004 update discussed the problems with hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which had been the main treatment for menopausal symptoms. But in the update, Medline Plus, explains, "…the results of a major study -- called the Women's Health Initiative -- has led physicians to revise their recommendations. In fact, this important study was stopped early because the health risks outweighed the health benefits. Women taking the hormones did see some benefits. But they greatly increased their risk for breast cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots." The Medline article goes on to offer non-drug alteatives to reduce menopausal symptoms that included "yoga, tai chi, or meditation." (See entire article at: www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000894.htm)

In a great article at webmd.com, Dr. Herbert Benson, head of hypertension studies at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital and author of "The Relaxation Response," goes further to suggest that Tai Chi's moving meditation is "…vitally important in PMS, infertility, hot flashes, insomnia,…" (Read the entire article at: my.webmd.com/content/article/25/1728_57992.htm). Dr. Benson's comments illustrate the vast multi-dimensional possibilities that Tai Chi offers everyone's health on so many levels. The purpose of this article is not to prescribe treatments for you, but to help you expand your dialogue with your health professional to explore more possibilities for your health. However, the purpose here is also to encourage physicians to begin demanding more focused medical research on what Tai Chi may offer their patients on many levels.

Currently all alteative therapies research is only about one half of only one-percent of the National Institutes of Health's budget, meaning that Tai Chi research is only a tiny fraction of that tiny fraction. Given the emerging possibilities of benefit Tai Chi is showing already with such limited research, this is inexcusable. Massive resources should be used to fully explore what Tai Chi offers, so that all hospitals can not only offer classes, but prescribe them. Tai Chi should be covered by medical insurance and national health insurance programs. The future is ours, by beginning to demand of our health system a natural and cost effective approach to our health and well-being. Share this article widely with everyone you know, but especially your health professionals, and your local media's health reporters.

Emu Oil Wonder Cure or Snake Oil

In my search for at-home spa treatments and home herbal remedies, which I really enjoy playing around with, I came across a product called Emu Oil.

The next time that I was at my local health food emporium buying various essential oils and herbs for my latest herbal experiment, I asked the sales clerk if they carried Emu Oil. She handed me a cobalt blue bottle with a picture of a large, prehistoric-type bird on the label.

I really wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with this yet, but I usually follow my intuition when I feel like I should buy something. It almost always becomes apparent to me within days exactly what I will use it for and I'll be glad that I have already purchased it and have it on hand. I leaed a long time ago to trust that little voice in my head that seems to always be there to assist me, even when I do not fully understand why.

That day I proceeded to create some yummy herbal spa treatment recipes which were quite delightful, but the Emu Oil remained unopened and pushed aside.

It wasn't until several days later that I found myself on the inteet looking for a solution to a problem that I had been having for about a month. The last time that I had visited my hair stylist she had recommended a hair product that would add volume and body, which I needed for the cut that I was currently sporting.

I purchased the product she had recommended and liked the results. But soon I begin to notice that my scalp was having a bad reaction to it. After several weeks of using the product, I finally decided that I needed to stop using it completely. But by this time my scalp had become irritated and itchy.

If you've ever felt itchy, you know that it can drive you crazy. I wanted relief and I wanted it NOW!

Online I found some information that indicated one thing that might alleviate my condition was massaging Emu Oil into the scalp.

Hey, how about that! I just happen to have a bottle of Emu Oil in the cupboard, and now I know why I bought it.

Well, not only did it bring me instant relief, it made my hair very soft, as well.

So I started reading about some of the other things that Emu Oil has been touted to have been helpful in alleviating.

Some of the items were:

*Bus, including sunbu and radiation bus

*Heal wounds, minor cuts and injuries

*Relieves eczema, psoriasis and acne

*Soothes discomfort of insect bites and rashes

*Helps prevent scarring of fresh wounds

*Aids in diminishing stretch marks and other skin blemishes

*Reducing pain and inflammation caused by arthritis

*Reduce swelling and muscle soreness

*Improve condition and rate of growth of hair and nails

Apparently there are some people out there who claim that Emu Oil has been effective in reversing hair loss. Is there anything that Emu Oil can't do?

I don't personally have any experience with Emu Oil other than using it as I mentioned above. But I certainly would give it a try if I ever needed relief from one of the other problems that so many people say it can help.

Although 100% Emu Oil doesn't really have an unpleasant smell, it certainly doesn't contain any of the perfumed scents that are usually added to other products that we purchase over the counter. I found that adding a few drops of my favorite herbal essential oil to the Emu Oil was a great way to have the smells that I like while also being able to enjoy the benefits of the healing properties of Emu Oil.

The Mysterious Frankincense

Used for many thousands of years, the Frankincense tree has perhaps the greatest association with spiritualpractice of any plant on earth. In most of the great ancient cultures, including the Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian, Hebrew, Greek and Roman civilizations, it has played a role inreligious and domestic life. Frankincense has been sought after by kings and valued as highly as gold. Morerecently, the essential oil is gaining popularity with spiritual seekers and natural healers alike. What isso special about this tree that its 'pearls' were given as a gift at the birth of one of history's most reveredprophets?

The Hardy Tree and its Tears

The Frankincense tree, or Olibanum, upon first glance, may seem rather unremarkable. It appears as agiant shrub, with many knurled branches topped with abundant slender leaves and occasionally, small white flowers.A native to northe Africa, it looks like it belongs in the desert, growing in some of the world'sharshest conditions. But it is not the tree itself, but rather its sap that has such profound lore surroundingit. Whenthe tree's bark is pierced with a knife (known traditionally as a 'Mingaf'), a milky-white oleoresin is exuded- thought the tree is not harmed. The resin forms droplets known as 'tears' or 'pearls', which harden intothe orange-brown gum known itself as Frankincense. The English name of this natural incense is derivedfrom the medieval French 'franc',meaning 'pure' or 'free', and from the Latin 'incensium', meaning 'to smoke'.

History's Most Popular Incense

For more than 5000 years, the hardened resin has been bued in temples throughout Egypt, China andIndia; the Catholic church continues to use it today during Mass. It is one of the four main ingredientsin Jewish ceremonial incense, forming an important part of the Sabbath day offerings. The smoke of Frankincense(as with other ritual incense) is thought to carry prayers to heaven upon it's smoke. It is also said todeepen the breath and still the mind, making it useful for meditation and yogic practice. Theincense may have health benefits as well, producing a highly antiseptic smoke, keeping churches and churchgoersfree from disease.

According to ancient documents, the great Baal temple of Babylon consumed 2 and a half tons of Frankincensea year. The Frankincense trade was of immense importance in ancient times, peaking about 2000 years ago.Caravans grew to as many as 2 to 3 thousand camels in size. Cities grew up along the trade routes, and heavytaxes and fees for protection, lodging and camel fodder raised the cost of the resin considerably, so muchso that it was valued as much as gold. The wealth involved inspired Alexander the Great to plot to control theregion, though his death happened to preceed the invasion.

Health Benefits

Frankincense resin is thought to have a bounty of health properties - it was an ingredient in a rejuvenateface mask in ancient Egypt (it was also charred and used as the classic heavy eyeliner seen in much ancientEgyptian art), and at one time was "used to treat every conceivable ill to man". In ayurvedic medicine itis known as salaiguggul, used for centuries to treat many conditions, including arthritis. Mode science has isolated the activecompounds found to have anti-arthritic properties. Called boswellic acids, these components inhibit theinflammatory process, improve blood supply and prevent further cartilage reduction.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Mode natural medicine and aromatherapy have taken to the use of the essential oil of Frankincense. The oil, havinga warm, woody, sweet aroma with a hint of citrus, is steam or CO2 distilled from the resin. It is used for respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, catarrh and asthma; for wrinkles, wounds and dryskin, and in cases of rheumatism, cystitis and leukorrea.

The most important effect of the essential oil may be on the nervous system. Regarded as an antidepressant, the aroma can both relax and revitalize, and can help in cases of nervous tension and exhaustion. Frankincenseoil contains sesquiterpenes, which stimulate the limbic system, the hypothalamus, the pineal and the pituitaryglands. The oil is now being researched for it's ability to increase human growth hormone production. Further,it is considered to strengthen the immune system, which may in-fact occur as a result of it's uplifting properties.

Frankincense essential oil can be used in a manner similar to buing of the incense in spiritual practice.Warming in a candle lamp or direct application to the temples and third eye will quiet the mind, deepen thebreath, and promote meditative stillness. It is often blended with Sandalwood, Myrrh and Cedarwood for suchuses, and the single-pointed concentration it invokes is thought to allow the spirit to soar.

Experimenting with Frankincense

Frankincense resin is widely available at reasonable costs. Most is wildcrafted, being extracted fromtrees growing in the deserts of northeast Africa - thankfully, the resource is abundant, as the treeseasily survive harvesting of the pearls. The small chunks of resin can simply be lit by themselves ina dish or similar container, and allowed to smolder and release their smoke. Frankincense is also availablein prepared incense sticks and other incense preparations. In the form of your choosing, simply lightand allow some quiet time to experience the deep aroma.

With the essential oil, a diffuser or warming lamp can be used to disperse the aroma throughout a space. The oil is also found in aromatherapy candles, where it is released from the heated oil beneath the buingwick. Frankincense oil can be applied directly to the forehead (it is non-irritating or sensitizing)where you can both capture the aroma and absorb the oil directly. Again, take a moment to sit quietlyto perceive any effects.

The wonderful gift of the Frankincense tree is available in many ways, and has come highly recommendedfor many thousands of years. Try adding a little Frankincense to your life, and see what the mystery is all about!

Embracing Authenticity

Our authenticity is found hidden in the small details of our daily round - home, family, work and pleasures.

- Something more "Small thing forgotten"

Susan Jeffers mentions in her book "Dare to Connect" something called "Everybody training" instead of "somebody training". The majority of people are programmed from a young age that we must be a "somebody" we seek out to be accepted by others including acceptance from friends, family, the church, groups, the society, the nation and the world. We climb to the top of the "work ladder" go away on holidays and spend our money on luxuries goods. Most of us jump on the treadmill of more, better, best without actually ever realizing who we are. We put our mask on, and 'act' as people want us to act. Eventually our authentic self becomes hidden and our ego self is absorbed and acted out daily, this is "somebody training".

We have to realize that a lot of people are walking around acting out what people want them to be. (I know from experience that most people would rather connect with a genuine less than saintly human, not a fake robotic person. They would rather them be themselves and have aninteraction that has the human touch of less than perfect. Accepting each other as they are; flaws and all.)

Under the surface of the "mask" that many of us are wearing we are being held back by loneliness, isolation, and lack of self-esteem. We need to realize what mask we are wearing, once we can identify our mask we can lea to change our behaviours when we simultaneously try to impress others hoping for acceptance we neglect our authenticity of who we are as humans and as unique individual beings. Psychiatrist W.W Broadbent identifies a few mask that people wear.

— Man's man style (I am absolutely fearless.)
— Saint style (Aren't I sweet, smiling, loving and accepting?)
— Windy style (Aren't I wonderfully articulate?)
— Chameleon style ( Ill be anything you want me to be)
— Moralizer style (I am virtuous and righteous and I always do what I should do…and so should you!)
— Frightened-fawn-in-the-forest style (I am weak and need you to take care of me)
— Martyr style (Oh, what I have done for you and get nothing in retu.)
— Super-self-sufficient style (I don't you, I don't need anyone.)
— Playing authentic style (Look how honest and forthright and authentic I am.)
— Toilet-bowl syndrome (Poor, poor me. The whole world is shitting on me.)
— Red Cross nurse style (Can't you see how giving and nurturing I am?)
— Guru style (Look how wise I am)
— One-upman style (See how cleverly I can put anyone down)
— Fan style (Whatever you do, it is great!)
— Nice-guy style (How could you help but like such a charming, sweet guy as I am?)
— Dig me style (Don't I entertain and amuse you?)

EXERCISE:

Can you identify your personal mask you use to cover up your authentic self around people?

Can you list five people that you believe wear any of the above mask.

Person Mask

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

How does it make you feel when others cover up who they really are?

Why do you think they cover up their authentic self?

Can you recall a time when you covered up who you really were in order to be a "somebody"? How did this make you feel?

Can you recall a time where you felt like you were a "everybody"? How did this make you feel?

LIFE WORKS ASSIGNMENT:Observe this week who you are most prone to cover up your authentic self around? And why you cover up your authentic self around this person?

1. Is this necessary?
2. How did this make you feel?
3. How can you be more of your authentic self around this person?

Our daily inteal body clocks or circadian rhythms synchronise the timing of our wake/sleep pattes and our interactions with the outside world.

Our body clocks are naturally conditioned and cued to respond to light signals or 'zeitbeigers' to awake at sunrise and sleep at night. Any disruption to these deeply ingrained biological rhythms can affect our body clock making us feel tired, listless, moody, irritable, depressed and crave carbohydrates and more easily succumb to illness.

Waking up to the shrill burst of an alarm clock when it is dark can send shudders through the system. In winter most of us have to wake up when it's dark, when our body clocks want to wake up at dawn. We are constantly toying therefore with our biological clocks in this way getting into unnatural sleep wake pattes and that's why the short and long term effects on our health can be profound.

LUMIE Sunrise Alarm Clocks are an amazing invention, employing circadian principles to work in harmony with our circadian rhythms. Changing over to waking up with LUMIE Sunrise Alarm Clocks can be life changing. It's the gentlest most natural wake up call, especially on those dark gloomy moings – waking up will never be such a trial again!

With the LUMIE Sunrise Alarm Clocks (Three Models – Standard, Classic and Advanced) as your preset waking time approaches, the clocks light begins to gradually shine from a feint glow becoming brighter when its time to wake. It might not be easy to believe but the light wakes you up every time. (If you're still not convinced there is a back up alarm).

When waking up to a dawn simulation – where ever you are - your body clock tells you its time to wake. None of that wanting just a few minutes more –and more – and more……– you wake up refreshed and bright – full of energy and ready for the day ahead – everyday!

You can also use the clocks relaxing sunset mode to help you get to sleep naturally too. When you are ready to go to sleep, switch off your overhead light and switch on the LUMIE Sunset sequence. As the light dims from bright to feint – and finally off so your body clock responds and begins to adjust to sleep, the body unwinds and relaxes and falls away into deep and refreshing sleep…….

EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques was developed by Gary Craig. He, attended a course on TFT - Thought Field Therapy (Dr. Roger Callaghan) and wanted to simply what he discovered to make the process as easy as possible to use but without detracting from its effectiveness.

What is EFT?

EFT is a technique which involves the stimulation of various acupuncture points whilst connecting to (thinking or talking about) the issue that the person wants to resolve.

In order to understand the principals beyond EFT it is useful to start off with an understanding of acupuncture.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China as a method of helping people overcome physical, psychological and emotional problems and issues. The underlying idea of acupuncture is this: -

1) The body has a number meridian lines contained within the body.

2) Along the meridian lines flows energy which is called 'Chi' (pronounced chee)

3) The ends and beginnings and parts in between of each of the meridian lines (acupuncture points) are close enough to the surface of the body for them to be affected by physical manipulation.

4) If a person has an particular issue, an experienced acupuncturist will know which meridian lines will have a blockage in them relevant to the issue, will know the acupuncture points appropriate to use for the resolution of that issue.

5) Acupuncture needles, which are very thin and hollow, can be inserted in appropriate acupuncture points to deliberately help the flow of energy through a particular meridian line.

6) With the blockage in the flow of Chi gone the issue goes or improves as well.

Now acupressure is the manipulation of those same acupuncture points on the body but instead of using acupuncture needles, the fingers and thumbs are used instead. Forms of acupressure that you might have experienced before are reflexology or shiatsu.

With EFT, instead of using needles or pressure on the acupuncture points, a series of light tapping with the fingers is used. The tapping can be done by the person with the issue for themselves or a practitioner can do the tapping for them.

Now at the same time the person is asked to repeat a sentence which describes the issue. The idea behind this is that the person stays connected to the issue (by repeating the description of the problem). At the end of one round of tapping on various acupuncture points, the strength of the issue is checked with the person. Of the issue is still present more rounds of EFT (tapping) will be used.

One round of EFT takes only around 60-90 seconds and the majority of people who have experienced EFT report a decrease in the strength of the issue.

With EFT being a process that anyone can use on themselves, it can be a very useful tool to help anyone deal with any issue whether physical, psychological or emotional.

The great news about EFT is that you do not have to have your belief system involved. You do not have to believe in EFT for it to be effective. All you do need is maybe a sense of curiosity and willingness to do it. As the rewards are high, the loss of that old issue, thousands of people have become regular EFT users and there are many EFT practitioners in the UK and worldwide now available to help people quickly.

Aura and space clearing can be accomplished in a number of ways. One easy and simple way is by using special herbs to clear the area. Herbs and incense have been used in this way for thousands of years. And for good reason. It works!

One of the best, all around cleansers is a wonderfully fragrant herb that grows wild in many places here in the mountains of Califoia, White Sage.

White Sage has been revered by the native people due to the sacred qualities that the herb possesses and the spirit that overshadows it.

The smell of White Sage being bued and used to smudge an area or an aura is so powerful that you may find yourself shifting into an altered state as the smell enters your lungs. I love the way it smells, but it is very strong. Some people may be repulsed by it, but that can be very telling in itself.

It has been my experience that heavy smokers generally do not like the smell of sage. Could it be that the frequency of it attempts to interfere with the habit of cigarette smoking, which causes initial discomfort to the smoker? Perhaps sage could be utilized in some way to help overcome that addiction.

The vibrational frequency of this particular herb will dislodge and clear most negative energies very quickly.

Have you ever gone into a house or building where there has been a lot of emotional distress or perhaps a death or long illness, and you felt uncomfortable there? A good smudging with sage would probably have a powerful affect and help tremendously to shift the "vibes" there.

If someone has a house like that and they have been trying to sell it unsuccessfully, they really should consider using the sage smudging technique to clear and uplift the energy there.

Afterwards, they may find that the property has a better "feel" to it that a potential buyer may sense as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it improved their chances of getting an offer to purchase it soon after that.

When a faster frequency energy comes into contact with a lower vibrating energy, the lower vibrating energy becomes dislodged, broken up, dispelled and cleared.

Other herbs and incense that can be used for aura and space clearing are a good quality Sandalwood Incense, Frankincense Resin, Copal Resin and Nag Champa Incense to name a few.

Essential Oils Kits Part VII

Whether you use aromatherapy as a stand alone or as a complementary first aid treatment there are several aromatic oils I'd like to recommend you have in your aromatic first aid kit.

My recommendations include important details for you to consider when purchasing an oil, such as its Latin Name, Country of Origin, Method of Extraction and Part of the Plant Used. I also list the best oils to consider when creating a synergistic blend.

PEPPERMINT ( Mentha piperita ) - Certified Organic, Steam Distilled Leaf, England and USA have wonderful distillations.

Peppermint is a fluid, colorless oil with a fresh, distinctly penetrating scent.

Keywords: COOL & REFRESHING Peppermint acts as a regulator and has a relaxing or invigorating effect depending on the circumstance for which you are using it.

A good blood cleanser it is both antiseptic and antibacterial!

Peppermint is well known for relieving migraine type headache, as well as headache resulting from weak or poor digestive forces, congestion or sluggish circulation.

It is also known to relieve nausea from motion sickness.

As well as being helpful for treating acne, swollen gums, mouth thrush, or ulcers and toothache.

Soak your tired feet in a foot bath with a drop or two of Peppermint (disperse oil in water by blending first with a teaspoon of honey or jojoba oil before adding to your foot bath) to relieve tired, swollen ankles and feet.

Peppermint relieves congested sinus cavities, aids concentration and is good for memory retention, restorative for mental fatigue, use alone or in a blend when studying for an exam.

Known to clears brain fog when fatigued Peppermint is great for keeping alert!

An analgesic or pain reliever use Peppermint for relieving tummy aches, or sore, achy muscles and joints.

To those people who do not wish to pop pills to kill pain, this is a good and effective method to consider when a headache comes on.

The fingers of our hands and toes of our feet are mapped to our head by meridians running through the body. The right hand and its fingers are associated with the right half including the neck and head. Similarly the left hand and fingers are associated with the left half of the body including the neck and head. The same applies to the feet.

If the fingers of the hand were placed in front of the face with the palm facing away from the face, you can determine the relationship between each finger with each of the 10 zones or meridians on the head. The thumbs associate with the center of the head. The index fingers a little distance away to the left and the right, over the inside of the eyes. The middle fingers toward the center/outer edge of the eyes. The ring fingers near the temples. And the baby fingers associate with the left and right edges of the head and ears.

When we have a headache one effective technique is to use the clothes peg, preferably the wooden ones, if they can still be found. Alteatively, if you can find some kind of clip that doesn't apply too much pressure that it blocks the blood flow, you can use that too.

Knowing the association between the fingers and the zones or meridians on the head, you can use the pegs on specific fingers to deal with the ache in a specific location of the head. If the headache is on the right side of the body, over the eye or behind the eye, place the clothes peg on the index and middle fingers of the right hand and leave it on for as long as possible. The continuous pressure has a sedative effect and would eventually block the pain.

If it is a diffused headache on one side of the head, use the pegs on all the fingers of the same side, i.e. for right half of the head, place pegs on the fingers of the right hand, and for the left half, on the fingers of the left hand.

Take a short nap and by the time you rise, you'll find that the headache is gone! A few years back, the mother of a colleague had a headache for several days, which started with the flu but did not go away when the flu left. I suggested this method. She used the pegs on all the fingers of one hand at first and took a nap. When she woke up, she found that one side of her head was no longer painful. Then she placed the pegs on the other hand, took another short rest and a few hours later found that she was finally head-ache-free!

For several years people have been taking cholesterol drugs as a means to lower high cholesterol levels. The most frequently prescribed class of cholesterol drugs are the statins, also known as lipid lowering medications. However they are known to have some quite serious side effects, such as causing liver function abnormalities. Statins currently available on the US market include :Statins currently available on the U.S. market include, Lipitor (atorvastatin) made by Pfizer, Zocor (simvastatin) made by Merck, Pravachol (pravastatin) made by Bristol-Myers Squibb, Lescol (fluvastatin) made by Novartis, Mevacor (lovastatin) made by Merck, and Crestor (rosuvastatin) made by AstraZeneca.

The latest cholesterol drugs that are soon to come on the market, are the CETP inhibitors. These new drugs have a different action as based on the latest scientific discoveries, it is now known that not all cholesterol is unhealthy. There are several types of cholesterol, including LDL bad cholesterol and HDL good cholesterol. The CETP Inhibitors work to also raise the hdl cholesterollevels which have been proven in themselves to aid in lowering levels of the ldl cholesterol.

There are however a large number of alteative cholesterol lowering drugs. Natural alteatives that do not pose such a risk, although of course any medication you take you should always check with your doctor first. You can lower cholesterol naturally by taking herbal remedies such as Guggul, Pantethine, Curcumin, Policosanol, and Beta-Sitosterol .These supplements are easily available and low cost compared to prescribed drugs. Of course there are also many lifestyle changes that can be made to lower your cholesterol levels naturally. Regular exercise and eating a diet for lowering cholesterol can also reduce your risk of developing heart disease. As they say, prevention is better than cure.

"I'm an Advil guy" says one TV commercial, or in a series of unlikely scenarios, one depicts a couple of men fly-fishing and as soon as a man winces with 'arthritic pain' in his shoulder, his friend, in the middle of the wildeess, magically takes a new pack of Aleve from his pocket and offers it to his friend. Similar situations are shown where it appears as though everyone walks around with a new box of analgesics in their pocket in case they or someone they are with complains of an ache or needs some form of pain relief.

The acceptance of these unlikely scenes has a subliminal effect on TV viewers for as some politician once said "tell people something often enough and they will believe anything." It is bad enough we are inundated with commercials for heavily controlled drugs that we should "ask our doctor about" but analgesics are readily available without prescription on supermarket and pharmacy shelves and as a result, many teenagers who succumb to advertising hype, end up as pain killer drug addicts.

"Don't underestimate the analgesic drug problem amongst teens – it is escalating fast and has reached frightening proportions," said Judy Cutler, a well-known nutritionist in Southe Califoia and developer of 'Naturally Painless,' a Natural Pain Relieving spray.

"As a nutritionist I have often come across damage inadvertently caused to kidney and stomach function that can be directly assigned to irresponsible overuse of analgesics for the slightest ache or pain. These heavy commercial campaigns have created a generation of hypochondriacs more commonly known as addicts. Just this moing on NPR radio it was announced that teen use of "Oxycontin" (a strong narcotic pain reliever) has risen since the last survey was done."

These dire consequences have created deep conce among our leaders for the future generation of citizens of our country. Stricter control of both the advertising and distribution of prescription and over the counter drugs would be of some benefit but a switch to natural pain remedies with no side effects or addictive properties would be an even better alteative.

Avian Flu: The bad news first

Well, it's flu season again. Only this time, we hear everyone talking about avian flu…the Super flu which is expected to wreck havoc across our land in the not so distant months.

So what is avian flu? Avian flu is bird flu. Yes, you read that right, "Avian flu is bird flu." And why might that be such bad news?

If you pursue the news much, you will read that the deadliest disease in history is widely regarded as the Spanish Flu epidemic which killed 40 million people in just months. Scientists now believe the epidemic was an avian flu pandemic. In other words, the virus came from birds - it is believed - and a virus similar to this one -called the "H5N1" (a form of avian flu virus). Its origins? Most scientists agree it originated in Asia, as this one.

Flu comes every season. It comes in one of two forms, Type A or Type B influenza. Type A is the more potent of these kinds of flu, and avian flu is Type A. These strains kill.

The current avian flu bug is infecting and spreading throughout the poultry industry in Asia. Why so often in Asia? Simply put…and here is a key to understanding how to deal with avian flu - poultry farms are absolutely filthy. The stench from such farms, especially those throughout Asia, can be detected a mile away. Those farms are packed with animals which are weak with compromised, weakened, immune systems.

Let these two phrases sink in together: avian flu and weakened immune systems. Whether we are dealing with the aftermath of the horrible conditions and weakened immune systems of millions who survived World War I or the horrible conditions of Asian and European poultry farms and their millions of animals with weakened immune systems, the key to this potential pandemic is "weakened immune systems and avian flu".

Because of the rapid spread and highly dangerous nature of the avian flu to birds, millions of flocks have been destroyed throughout the afflicted countries. However, that is simply not working because migratory birds are carrying the avian flu to distant lands, thus spreading its contagion. Interestingly, the migratory birds are not dying like the chickens. Why? Because their immune systems are much stronger, we are told by scientists.

Let that one sink in too: avian flu is not killing those animals so readily which have strong immune systems. Hum…avian flu and immune systems…Could be we have something here.

Incidentally, there have been only about a hundred deaths from avian flu worldwide. It is almost impossible for avian flu to make the transition from bird to human easily.

Avian Flu: Now for the really bad news

Of course, as soon as there is the slightest danger -avian flu or otherwise -our govement jumps into high gear to infect every one of us, if possible, with its antiviral drug program against the slightest hint of avian flu. To date, everyone of the influenza drugs have proven worthless…or worse, against avian flu or any other kind of flu.

Note this statement from the former Chief Vaccine Control at the Federal Food and Drug Administration:

There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway. --Dr. J. Anthony Morris

I wonder if this will apply to the alleged avian flu "antidote". Note: The last few decades have seen a dramatic shift in fatalities from seasonal flu (some of which are avian flu).

Researchers now know the increase in the population does NOT account for the doubling of the seasonal average death toll from flu (avian flu or otherwise). Less than 20,000 were dying per year for decades. But, since the advent of the flu shot, averages of over 40,000 people per year have been dying.

Why?

One suggestion is a combination of two factors: the continued impairment of the immune system of the average American as witnessed by the multitude of epidemic diseases among us (not present in appreciable amounts in previous decades). The second factor follows below… (like the second Horseman of the Apocalypse).

Let's see…one thing we do know about flu vaccines. They are not proven to work… No, two things we know…Yes, yes. They can kill. Just as surely as the avian flu can kill.

Many authorities believe the flu shot actually weakens the immune system…ah, there it is again…the immune system weakened.

Why is that? Let's see. The ingredients in the flu vaccine (remember this when dealing with the avian flu) include:

" Formaldehyde, you know…embalming fluid known to cause cancer.

" Aluminum, the very metal related to Alzheimer's disease, cancers of numerous types and traumatic seizures.

" Carbolic Acid: a terribly caustic poison.

" Ethylene Glycol: You will definitely need this fluid this winter, but please only use it as anti-freeze for your car, as it was designed to be used originally.

" Mercury: This is present in the vaccine ingredient called thimerosol. This is a known medical crippler and killer. It kills brain cells and immune cells and is linked to childhood brain and nervous diseases because of its use in VACCINES.

" Vaccines for use in avian flu are grown on virus strains developed from pus-laden animal tissue mixed with the above mentioned deadly chemicals. (Bulleted items: Special Report, "Bird Flu, H5N1", Dr. Richard Schulze, November 2005, p. 12. Great "avian flu" resource.)

Is it any wonder the drug companies involved sought to be legally protected from law suits by those who might use these drugs against avian flu?

Forgive my skepticism, but I have seen from the inside of the medical/drug establishment, the fanatical zeal to make money as a first priority… Been there, opposed that. Avian flu treatment will not be any different.

Don't count on the Hippocratic Oath to protect you from avian flu. There is big money in these drugs. Billions. And it is always suspicious when a drug company seeks lawsuit immunity (hum, appropriate wording here) BEFORE THE FACT (before its use against avian flu!)

Avian Flu: Now for the good news (finally).

Avian flu was not in view when this following statement was made. However, read it carefully with avian flu in mind.

In Congressional testimony conceing the potential of bio-terrorism attack upon the United States, Dr. H. Reginald McDaniel stated,

In instances of unusual, epidemic, or virulent infectious agent exposure, glyconutrient supplementation has been found effective for enhancing general immune functions and defense. When supplied at higher levels than available in nature, sugars needed for cellular synthesis can take innate defense systems to a much higher level that are effective against infectious agents.

In other words, if we were attacked by an enemy with bio weapons -such as avian flu- we could find protection with glyconutrition. This is a powerful, non-prescriptive antidote possibility against avian flu.

Glyconutrition enhances the immune system's natural defenses so powerfully that cancers, flu, and other UNDER ACTIVE IMMUNE DISORDERS can be stopped. The evidence is already in place. There is no guesswork here. Avian flu is flu, Type A, precisely the kind of flu glyconutrition is designed to offset.

Glyconutrition is effective - presumably against avian flu too - and has no side effects. It is a food substance, proven to be vital for human survival. There are no less than four Nobel Prizes to substantiate the presence and human need for glyconutrition.

There is an abundance of evidence showing its effectiveness against all kinds of disease, including flu. It doesn't attack the flu directly. It strengthens the immune defenses - killer T cells and others - and they kill the tumors, flu, herpes simplex, shingles, strep, TB, bacterial infections, cancers, parasitic diseases… Quite a list of killers thus killed.

So…

Guess what I am going to take to protect my family this year against avian flu…if it develops?

    What's in a name?

At first they were 'alteative' then they were 'complementary', and sometimes they are called 'holistic' or 'natural'. What are they? The hundreds of therapies offered outside of conventional medicine, as diverse as acupuncture, hopi ear candling, alexander technique and herbalism. The terminology has changed in recent years, with most practitioners now preferring the term 'complementary' rather than 'alteative', reflecting the view that such therapies are best used alongside conventional medicine rather than instead of it.

These days many of the complementary therapies are gaining recognition among members of the conventional medical world, and indeed some doctors, nurses and other conventional practitioners are practicing complementary therapies alongside their mainstream practice. So defining what exactly counts as complementary is not easy - some of the therapies on this site are very well known, such as chiropractic and acupuncture others are newer or more unusual and probably won't be well known to most conventional practitioners.

      The Conventional/Complementary battle

Unfortunately, some practitioners on both sides of the conventional/ complementary divide are distrustful and suspicious of those on the other side. On the whole, conventional practitioners are ill informed about complementary therapies and often doubt they can be of any use. On the other hand, complementary therapists tend to speak ill of conventional medicine and do their best to steer patients away from it. This is not a healthy attitude on either side. Thankfully, this is all changing. As awareness grows among the public and among healthcare professionals, complementary therapies are becoming more well known, better researched, and better understood.

      What are they good for?

In fact, complementary therapies and conventional medicine sit well together as they excel in different areas. Conventional medicine has undergone massive advances over time, and is now capable of near miraculous things. It has been responsible for wiping out certain killer diseases, it can give you a new heart, and it saves countless lives. At times we all need it - if you disagree, consider this - if you were run over by a bus would you rather be taken to hospital or to your herbalist?

However, conventional medicine doesn't have much to offer to help us with minor day to day troubles like back ache, colds or flu. Any it isn't much use with a lot of chronic problems such as asthma, eczema or ME. These 2 categories are the forte of complementary medicine, which often has great results, especially with chronic conditions.

The author, Neil Kingham, maintains an A-Z of complementary therapies website at http://www.therapy-info.com

The scientific explanation behind magnet therapy is that the magnetic fields produced by magnets (generating electromagnetic current) penetrates the human body thereby affecting the functioning of individual cells and improve the various disorders by taking care of the entire body system. Precisely how the magnetic fields do this remains a mystery, but there are several hypotheses. Some say that the electrical current generated by magnets reprieves the transmission of pain signals in the central nervous system. Others claim that magnets enhance blood flow, increasing the flow of oxygen, and resultantly diminishing pain and swelling. It keeps us pondering "do magnets work"?

What You Can Expect

It is a common belief that magnets work best when placed over a body area that has some degree of intact circulation. Therefore it is ideal to do magnet therapy under the guidance of an expert massage therapist or a doctor. Many people choose to use magnets on their own, however.

For those who question that " do magnets work?", here are some examples.

If you are experimenting magnets for arthritis or another type of pain, you may be advised to buy small magnetic systems that can be tightened to the ailing body part with elastic bandages, tape, or Velcro. These magnets generally produce a magnetic field ranging from 300 to 400 gauss--about ten times powerful than the magnets on your refrigerator. (The intensity of magnetic flux is measured by gauss.) Some people presume that magnets may work in part for conditions like arthritis because attaching them to the nauseous joint acts like a limiting movement, splint.

The time period to undergo a magnetic therapy depends on the type of pain you are experiencing. It can vary from five minutes to a number of hours everyday for several weeks. You can be suggested to use magnetic pillow or magnetic mattress for insomnia, which may generate as much as 4,000 gauss, which may generate as much as 4,000 gauss. (The gauss level should be higher when the magnetic source is farther from the body.)

To date, there has not been enough research completed to determine what, if any, gauss intensity is high enough to be deleterious. Due to MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machines produce magnetic fields as high as 15,000 gauss with no known deleterious side effects. Magnet therapists claim that the therapeutic magnets is are safe since it poses no health risk. Therefore those who pose the question" do magnets work?'' the only answer is, " yes, they work."

It is amazing how many different ways you can use magnets, including for business, health, gift ideas and more... Get more free information by visiting http://www.nichearticles.com/magnets/

If your child has had several ear infections already, or you simply wish to lower the risk of getting them in the first place, here are some proven ways to prevent, or at least lessen the frequency and severity, of ear infections:

  1. Breastfeeding. Medical literature provides no doubt that prolonged breastfeeding lowers your child's chances of getting ear infections.
  2. Daycare setting. Continuous exposure to other children increases the risk that your child will catch more colds, and consequently more ear infections. Crowded daycare settings are a set up for germ sharing. If possible, switch your child to a small, home daycare setting. This will lower the risk.
  3. Control allergies. Allergies may be contributing to your child's runny nose and, consequently, ear infections. Investigate if your child is allergic and take the appropriate action to lower the risk.
  4. Feed baby upright. Lying down while bottle-feeding can cause the milk to irritate the Eustachian tube which can contribute to ear infections.
  5. Keep the nose clear. When a runny nose and cold start, do your best to keep the nose clear by using steam, saline nose drops, and suctioning.
  6. Cigarette smoke. There is strong evidence that smoking irritates baby's nasal passage, which leads to Eustachian tube dysfunction.
  7. Echinacea. This is a herb which can safely and effectively boost the immune system.
  8. Chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments to the skull and neck can improve middle ear drainage and decrease ear infections.

Pain and Stress. They seem almost to go hand in hand - not only in their negative connotation, but also in their biological causes and triggers. Back pain and muscle pain is typically caused by inflammation in the proximity where the pain originated, which in tu creates inteal pressure, activating pain receptors in the nerve endings and sending the signal (registered as varying levels of discomfort) to the brain.

Some people are bo with a naturally higher tolerance to pain - what's been dubbed the "pain threshold". Then there are the rest of us, who have normal or low pain thresholds and if chronic back pain, muscle pain, or nerve related pain or illness were to be introduced into our lives, we would be forced to be a prisoner to "the bottle". The "bottle" being one of the many prescription painkillers or narcotics prescribed to so many suffering daily, chronic muscle pain and nerve related pain.

So there must be a better way to control the pain, and manage it successfully without constant reliance on and possible addiction to prescription pain medication? And there is. Along with an excellent new naturopathic, herbal pain remedy recently introduced to consumers, there are several things you can do to manage pain effectively, and in tu even reduce stress and improve your overall mental and physical health - all of which are key factors in successful pain management.

On of the best ways to manage stress and in tu reduce pain, is to employ some sort of low impact, muscle soothing exercise, like basic yoga, tai chi, or water aerobics. These types of exercises not only stretch the muscles and keep them limber and lithe, but they effectively "massage" and calm muscles, have very little impact on joints, strength the supportive muscles of the back, and can even help reduce inflammation in the body. The mind-body connection is very strong, there is no doubt - just start an exercise routine like this and I guarantee your mood, pain and anxiety virtually melt away.

Exercise also releases and creates endorphins, which are a natural "antidote" to pain, stress, anxiety, fatigue and depression. The release of endorphins can actually reverse the negative effects these afflictions can have on your body. If you're a habitual exerciser, think of how you lethargic you feel after a few days of inactivity, and you'll understand this concept! Inactivity is one of the biggest underlying causes and perpetuators of worsening pain, lethargy, depression and anxiety.

Meditation is also a great method to reduce pain, anxiety and the host of other undesirable problems so prevalent in America today. Like yoga, and other relaxation techniques, meditation allows you to focus only on you, your breathing, and your body. This faciliatates the "harmonizing" of the body and the mind, the ultimate feeling of well-being, vitality, and tranquility, all of which will help you manage pain and stress. This will keep your mind sharp, focused, and better able to deal with the daily stress life can sometimes bring.

Combine these few simple lifestyle habits with the use of an herbal pain remedy where needed, or even just employ these habits alone, and I guarantee, pain will not only be easier to cope with when it rears it's ugly head, but also will be reduced greatly in it's severity and frequency. It quite simply is a necessity to living pain free.

Creative Uses for Aromatherapy

Copyright 2006 Francesca Black

The Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all recognized the therapeutic properties of essential oils and plant extracts. The use of plant oils can be traced back over 6000 years. Individuals in many cultures believed that scent inspires the imagination and frees the spirit. In mode society many individuals are finding innovative ways to incorporate aromatic scents into their daily lives, to elicit feelings of relaxation and contentment.

Bath

Oil and water don't always mix well, so consider mixing 6-10 drops of aromatherapy essential oils with 1/8 of a cup of milk or soy milk, then add it to a warm running bath water. Do not add the essential oil blend until you are ready to get into the bath, this will allow you to enjoy the initial release of the oils into the bath.

Facial

Facial are another technique used to help individuals relax. Added benefits to steam facials include cleansing of pores, and softening of the skin. Adding an aromatherapy scent to the facial will bring additional pleasure.

Add 2 to 4 drops of your favorite essential oil blend to the hot water, hold your head over the bowl and cover both the bowl and your head with the towel. The steam will rise invigorating your pores. Take short breaks if you find yourself becoming to warm.

Massage

In practice since ancient times, massage is a relaxing experience of hand strokes on the body to rejuvenate the mind and body and eliminate stress. Using hands and fingers, the message therapist alleviates any kind of muscular pains and discomforts and relaxes the muscles. Massage creams or oils will help the hands move smoothly over the muscles. Add essential oils to scent the massage oil and bring additional relaxation. Be careful not to apply undiluted oils to the skin. Pure essential oils should always be diluted with pure carrier oil or added to an existing base cream.

Another common way to manage muscle relaxation is to rub essential oil blends into the soles of the feet, and put on warm socks. The heat from the socks, causes the essential oils to be quickly absorbed into the skin.

Healing

Essential oils have been used for generations to heal, enhance and maintain good health. Essential oils can be used as a gentle remedy for headaches and muscle aches. It is important to understand how your body reacts to various scents, so that you can induce muscle relaxation when necessary. Specific health ailments should always be properly diagnosed from a licensed medical practitioner, while essential oils can enhance medical care rarely are they a lone solution to serious health conces.

Skin Care or Aesthetic

The olfactory cells in your nose are the only place in the whole body where the central nervous system is directly in contact with the exteal environment. This fact is not lost on the medical community. The oldest medical text in existence is recorded on two clay tablets from the Sumerian period around 3500 BC. The clay tablets discuss the use of aromatics in medical practice.

Most of the advanced work on Aromatherapy has been done in France where French physicians, after completing medical school, have the option to continue with several more years of leaing so that they can use and prescribe essential oils in their medical practices. In fact tradition medicine is now acknowledging the use of aromatherapy in medical practice . A recent article published in the joual Pediatrics, indicated that pleasant odors, can help premature infants that are in incubators, with the breathing disorder, apnea.

There is no certification for aromatherapists in the United States. However, there are over 2,000 clinical aromatherapists who prescribe aromatherapy for all kinds of ailments, including acne, fungus, asthma, allergies, and constipation. Traditional medicine and ancient remedies are merging in mode day medicine.

What is biofeedback?

In biofeedback you expand self-awareness and practice powerful self-healing under guidance. This is often done with measuring devices to train for relaxation. However, the true goal is expanding the dynamic range and flexibility of your physiology. The benefits are enhanced self-regulation and more robust health.

A biofeedback loop starts with monitoring a signal coming from your body. You can monitor muscle tension, hand temperature or brainwave turbulence. Constant updates are fed back to you in a multimedia display. You look and lea. Using this information to get a certain feeling, you then change the signal in a particular direction.

You gain the power to flex and expand your body's functioning. These physiological stretching lessons then go into automatic pilot and are used as needed.

Biofeedback is a mind-body mirror. Specific self-awareness, nourished by intention, becomes self-control. Next comes enhanced homeostasis without further effort. Once you have cleared the trail, the body follows.

Let's do some biofeedback right now. Monitor your pulse. Just feel your heart beating. Without changing your breathing, notice how many times your heart beats during each inhalation and each exhalation. Observe your patte. Is it 2, 3 or 4 beats per half breath? Now, slow your breathing rate by counting one more heartbeat as you exhale.

Many studies have proven that computerized elaboration of this slower breathing technique has significantly benefits such as lowering high blood pressure. The magic number is usually 6 full breathes per minute. Next try it while walking. Notice the number of strides per breath.

Scientifically sound

The field of biofeedback has progressed by proving that conscious influence is possible over many biological systems and that this practice relieves many diverse disorders.

Scientific literature has well established that holding a thermometer (the signal) to raise your hand temperature (vascular relaxation) prevents 50% of migraine headaches. Biofeedback is more effective than any pill at preventing migraines, especially as medications decline in effectiveness over the years.

Brainwave biofeedback

Using biofeedback with brain signals is called neurofeedback. Neurofeedback is more efficient and powerful than peripheral biofeedback. Neurofeedback can abort migraines. The success rates for resolving migraine are now over 90%. When it works, results seem to endure.

Biofeedback has proven effective in relieving about 150 varied conditions. The only explanation for such broad effectiveness is the power of applied consciousness to self-heal.

The single most popular application for neurofeedback is for ADD. The efficacy is quite high with 85% obtaining 100% remission of symptoms. Complete remission means the disorder is no longer detectable by any means, including brain maps.

Neurofeedback results seem to last forever. There is no homework. As your brain finds a better way to operate, it accepts and adopts the improvements without further effort. As the core problem is cleared, related problems tend to dissolve. Medications can be stopped.

What's it good for?

Here is a short list of the applications for biofeedback in various categories. The quality of evidence varies from rock solid to consistent clinical reports. The positive effect size is usually strong.

Optimal functioning: students, meditators, performing artists, athletes, soldiers, executives.

Everybody: sleep, mental focus, memory, emotional health.

Brain: seizures, stroke, traumatic brain injury, coma, migraine, ARCD.

Lifestyle: drug & alcohol abuse, criminality, eating disorders.

Arousal: stress, anxiety, headache, OCD, anger, PTSD, psychological trauma.

Chronic: asthma, IBS, TMJ, chronic fatigue, immune suppression, fibromyalgia.

Not just kids: ADD, autism, Asperger's, stuttering, Tourette's, tics, leaing disorders.

Women: PMS, menopause, hot flashes, pregnancy.

Major: cancer, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, chronic pain, depression.

See www.isnr.org or www.aapb.org for the complete list and scientific references.

Effective

How could one thing be that good for so many different problems? Because the central nervous system is central. Nourishing your mind-body connection with specific awareness and directed intention conditions self-regulatory systems. Your car drives better on all roads after an engine tune up.

I believe that everyone on the planet would benefit from 10 sessions of neurofeedback to optimize mental clarity and upgrade emotional health. Some problems resolve more quickly including garden variety anxiety, migraine, anger, PTSD, PMS and sleep problems. ADD is in the middle but you'll need more sessions for fibromyalgia or autism. Home neurofeedback units are now available for training under the guidance of a professional.

Safe, fun

Biofeedback is remarkably safe. A biofeedback mirror is more benign than a regular mirror. Give an anorexic girl a mirror and she may see enough fat to redouble her diet. Give her 15 sessions of neurofeedback and she will probably begin to ask 'who am I in this world.'

There are cheap and free forms of do-it-yourself biofeedback which are highly effective. And fun. If you want the strongest benefits from biofeedback it is important to employ the best technology. You will derive more rapid, complete and enduring benefits by using the latest neurofeedback software and equipment.

Biofeedback sessions are most often described as pleasant, interesting and relaxing.

There are many fears and misunderstandings about the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and the myths and mystery that surround it are totally undeserved. This page will help you to understand the enormous life-enhancing potential of this ancient therapy.

It is used on a daily basis in literally millions of therapists offices around the world, working with all sorts of 'human conditions', including:

- Personal matters
- Emotional difficulties
- Psychological problems
- Many Physical problems
- Performance enhancement
- Sporting improvement
- Habit control
- Weight control
- Sleeping difficulties
- Relationship problems

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy has been around for probably more than 5000 years; it is now being recognised as a safe and effective tool to assist with a great many issues - in fact, is has been accepted by the British Medical Association as a valuable treatment methodology since 1955.

I am often asked how safe it is - well, I have conducted over 24,000 sessions in my career so far and have taught self hypnosis to hundreds of people. Nobody has complained yet... While it's certainly not a 'once size fits all' type of therapy, it can help with a huge number of problems.

You can attend a practitioners office, or you can lea to hypnotise yourself - either way it's totally safe. We'll have a look at both methods - self hypnosis first.

Self Hypnosis

Self hypnosis is used on a daily basis by sportsmen and musicians, business people and artists, housewives, policemen, engineers, shop assistants... in fact it's used by millions of people from all walks of life all over the globe!

Let's dispel a few of the anxieties that some visitors might have... the following 'rules' are applicable to all types of hypnosis:

- You cannot 'get stuck' - this is quite impossible
- You do not become unconscious or go to sleep
- You know what's happening at all times
- You can exit the state whenever you wish to
- You cannot 'lose your mind'
- It is not connected in any shape or form with the occult
- There is no such thing as a 'hypnotised feeling'
- It is actually a totally natural state which we all go into several times a day
- It is very similar to meditation or relaxation techniques
- IT IS COMPLETELY SAFE!

Getting into a state of self-hypnosis is a specific skill and as with all skills, some people are better at it than others. It is fair to say, though, that almost everybody can benefit from leaing how to use it. Among other things, you can help yourself to:

- Lose weight
- Quit smoking
- Improve sporting and other performance
- Increase concentration and recall
- Improve confidence and self-confidence
- Work with motivation issues

As mentioned earlier, it is a specific skill and one which needs to be leaed. There are many books on the subject and there are also free lessons available from some websites on the subject.

Professional Hypnosis

Although self hypnosis can sometimes be effective, it is fair to say that one-to-one sessions with a professional therapist will almost always provide better results. Although some people feel nervous about taking this step, it is an astonishingly relaxing experience for most - one of the 'side effects' is often a dramatic lowering of stress levels.

The therapist's voice...

Hypnosis is usually induced by the use of the therapist's voice, though you are unlikely to actually feel hypnotised. There is no such thing as a 'hypnotised feeling', though many people find their senses to be far more alert than usual - you will certainly not 'lose control' at any time, nor can you be manipulated in any way.

There is no form of unconsciousness and nobody can be made to do anything that they do not want to do; a person in hypnosis is aware of everything happening around them, aware of themselves and their therapist, and will normally retain a full and accurate memory of everything afterwards.

Hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is simply a very comfortable and relaxed state during which it is quite easy to converse sensibly with the therapist, although not all styles of hypnotherapy employ this technique. And here is something that may surprise you - whilst almost anybody can enter the state of hypnosis, the strongest minds do it best! To be unhypnotisable is an indicator of some sort of difficulty with focussing the mental processes and is actually extremely rare.

The Therapy

Hypnosis itself is unlikely to provide a relief of symptoms, whatever those symptoms might be. It is the therapy - hypnotherapy - which is carried out within the hypnotised state that is important. It takes two entirely different forms.

Suggestion Therapy

This form of treatment is ideal for helping to cope with such things as examination fears, driving test nerves, smoking, nailbiting, some weight-control problems, stress, and so on. Usually, between two and four sessions are needed and some therapists will work with 2 or more people at one time, often reducing costs.

Analytical Therapy

This is sometimes used for more deep-rooted problems. The technique aims to find and remove the underlying original cause of such things as irrational fears, emotional problems, relationship difficulties, psycho-sexual problems, lack of confidence, moodiness, sleeping difficulties, stuttering/stammering, anxiety, inferiority complex, unhappiness, phobias, etc. and most other problems where there is a psychological factor at work.

The treatment period will normally be between six and twelve weekly sessions and is capable of producing a complete and lasting release from the symptom(s). It is a totally private and individual, one-to-one form of therapy, and one which, for many, is the 'cream of therapies'.

So there you have it... if you've been struggling to cope with an aspect of life, or even life itself, and don't know how to resolve your problems - give hypnosis a try. It is likely to be well worthwhile!

Terence Watts is a successful therapist, lecturer and author of hypnotherapy and self-help books. He runs his own school in the UK and has conducted more than 24,000 sessions of hypnosis and hypnotherapy since 1989. http://www.hypnosense.com is one of the biggest free hypnosis sites in the world.
